Are you sure that doesn't read "GU6"?? If you are correct, this would be the first I've heard of a 4-th gen V8 f-bod M6 w/ anthing other than 3.42 gears, something sounds fishy.

Yah, it sounds very strange, because 3.23 M6's were not built. They just weren't. There isn't even a factory calibration for the speedo that would work.

What's your cruise rpm at 60 in 6th? I think it's impossible your car was built as M6/3.23.

Maybe an M6 swap car, salvage glovebox door, something like that maybe?

idk guys i tried hard to look at the box sticker and see if it was a faded 6 but it clearly looks like gu5. i got the car a few months ago and the trans had been newly replaced but he didn't indicate that it was swapped to m6. as far as my rpm in 6 gear at 60, well i want to say 17-1800 but don't quote me sometimes it won't go into 6 unless im going faster. i'll check that tomorrow, also when asked (the seller) he told me it had 3.42s only after i learned about codes, i checked.

Do the rest of the codes match the car? You could have a junkyard replacement door on car.

sounds like you have a junkyard glove box door, 1993's were the only 4th gens to have the RPO sticker in the glove box that i know of. after that, they started putting them on the drivers door.

my door has a sticker but no codes just car info like date manufacutred, curb weight etc. and my rpm's were at 11-1200 at 60mph in 6th, hows that sound, its hard to get into 6th doing less than 65, i have to speed up then drop it into 6th and slow down lol.

its a toss up. at 60 with 3.42's you should be right around 1300-1400 RPM. maby the LT1 cars had the RPO's in the glove box till 96. not sure.

Lets stop beating around the bush. Please confirm:

A) Does the VIN on the glovebox decal match the VIN under the windshield?
B) Does the glovebox decal have MN6 (RPO for T56 6-speed MT)?

You've already confirmed you have GU5 (3.23) and not GU6 (3.42). If all of the above is true, then you have a factory freak.

If A) is false, B) is probably also false too. The govebox doesn't match the car.

If A) is true and B) is false, then your car has had it's transmission swapped from an A4 to a M6.

John's right, there's a lot of crap in this thread.

I think the guy who "ordered his 2002 M6 with 3.73's" should post up his build sheet. Because apparently he is the only 4th gen owner with enough pull at GM to get them to build a unique configuration and create a new factory PCM file. Must have been an expensive option.

A few weeks ago I had a 20 minute argument with a guy who insisted his '99 A4 WS6 had 3.90's from the factory.

My pleasure. Here was my first clue:

on another note i can start the engine without pushing in the clutch, normal?
NOT normal. Whoever did the trans swap omitted the clutch-starter interlock switch.
