Default Has anyone heard of a ttop convertion?

I would like to make my vert into a ttop. I have heard that you can do it, I just don't know how or who would do it. Any help or info on the matter would be great thanks,

P.J.

Probably be way better off just to buy a ttop car. Anything can be done but unless you love an adventure, why?

A ton of fabrication would be involved, but for a lot of money, anything is possible. I've never seen any conversions available.

I kno a guy that did this to a chevelle convertible, but turned to hardtop rather than T's. I always thought it was a stupid idea, but it is possible. Anyway, it'll be waayyyyyyy cheaper to just buy a T-top car.

Usually the t-top conversion's are for the hardtop cars. to convert a vert to t-top. even hard top would cost way more then what you could by a t-top car for.

why? why would you wan to change a convertible in to a t top car, it makes no sense. just buy a car with t-tops and you would be happy, even if you do manage to do you car a t-top it would not perform the same as a true t-top car! what you should do is converted to a hardtop convertible. thats what im going to do. im going to start planning this think in the summer, making computer animations of what i would need to move cut get ridd of in order for it to work. i have seen how a guy turn a convertible mustang into a hardtop convertible, so i know that i am not alone.

This is crazy. This just doesn't make any sense.

If you really wanted to "convert" your car into t-tops, you would need to buy a donor hardtop car to cut the roof off of. After thousands of dollars and tons of custom body work, your car would have a roof and t-tops. But, If you were going to go this route, you should just buy a roller and put all of your cars parts into it...

The intelligent way would be to sell your car and buy one that came with t-tops.

Why did you buy a convertible to begin with?

Instead of turning your vert into a mutant, just sell it and buy a t-top car, much easier and I bet way cheaper in the long run too. FWIW-Ever see those cars on ebay with custom mods like this, like that red 78 trans am that was made into a vert, it sat forever before it sold, people shy away from those "one of a kinds", IMHO

I have thought about this before. I for one already have a donor car stripped to the frame at a friends shop. The front end is smashed. It would be alot of work i agree. He says to just take the front clip of my car and we can weld it on to the smashed t top car. And of course my entire drivetrain, and all the body panels. Lots of work, could be done tho. Once i pay mine off i would trade somebody in a heartbeat for a t top car. But, i would want my motor and drivetrain in it

The rear sheet metal is different . . .

I've heard of Hard Tops to T-Tops . . . and T-Tops to Soft Tops, but not in reverse . . .

I would think you could find someone with a T-top that wanted to 'swap bodies'. I'm sure there's a T-top guy out there somewhere that would love to trade to a 'vert.

I think it'd be better to swap bodies than to weld your clip on to a busted car.

Well I have my vert up for sale in a couple of different places. It has the back window busted out so I was looking into doing the ttop conversion for a price that I heard, 700.00, because its 1600.00 to have a shop install a new top. I think that I will fix the top myself and sell the car. Then buy a ttop car with a M6 so that I can have some manual fun before I get married.

To answer the question of why I bought a 'vert in the first place is... I needed a down payment unless the car was worth 10% more than the loan that I was getting (10,000.00) And the 'vert was worth 13,500 when I bought it 2 and a half years ago. So right there was my down payment. But I really wanted a manual and a ttop car. But was limited to this one at the time.

Thanks,
P.J.

I saw a shop that swapped roofs. It was $3000 unpainted. $7000 fully painted. Your particular conversion would probably cost more as there is a bit more work to do.
