You should make sure you have a fading control for the subs on the head unit - because the sound (bass) obviously drops when the top goes down. I didn't have it on my '96 head unit and I had to pop the trunk and adjust the amp when I put the top down to get the best sound.

For me, its perfect. I don't need to bring down the house - I just wanted to fill in the missing bass - and it does that top up or down.

No rattles at all for me.

I would say, since you already have a different head unit, get a good mono amp just for the subs they are pretty cheap now, and if your head unit doesn't control the sub amp and have outputs for it, grab another head unit, having that control at the dash is worth every penny. I have that setup in both my olds and my tbird and I love it. If you already have highs, now you just need the subs.

I am very happy with the sound I get from the 8s, it is more subdued with the top down but still enough that it works for me, I wish I had better control over just the subs like with an aftermarket deck, but the stock deck leaves the car looking very uninteresting to thieves with the top down at least. It isn't the really low in your chest deep like the set of 12s I have in my old tbird, but those Boston's really kick it good and are nice and tight sounding. It is enough by the way, that when the GF drives it, I can hear the bass from my office when she drives up.

I haven't noticed or heard the deck lid rattling from the subs at least from the drivers seat.

My only real gripe about the box is I need to find some grills for it, I can picture my sons throwing something in the trunk and taking out the speaker in the process, and I haven't found a grill to accomidate the travel of the Bostons, the grill I got were for JL I think and they were to shallow, they speaker would hit the grill and rattle...

The looks of it installed and the loss of that seat would be what kept me from going that route. That and it seems like it would be easy for someone to pilfer the way I drive my car..... I leave it parked at the office, grocery store whatever with the top down all the time.

I agree with Scott, I was moving "my stuff" out of the house last night(my future ex wife took all the good **** and left me all the trash to move ) and did find a subwoofer control, I don't remember if it is for the sub in my Camaro, the BMW she took, or my olds, I am hoping it was for the Camaro's amp.

Hey all,

Check out the link in my sig for ordering info. At the moment though, I'm in the process of getting ready to move into a new house (yes, SOLD my old one in this market!!), so my "shop" is temporarily closed. But come June / July I should be back up and ready to build. If you have any specific questions about my box for me, please PM me as I need to keep the chit-chat on my box "offline" since I'm not a board sponsor. Oh, I've never sold my boxes on ebay (yet anyway). That must have been either one of my customers' boxes or another similar box (I saw one for a Eclipse and Mustang verts on EBay that look very similar in how they are installed).

Brian, your SS and Cutlass are looking GOOOOD! I haven't yet taken the winter wraps off mine, can't wait. Need another good rain to wash the rest of the salt off the roads.

Salt, what's this salt your talking about? Isn't that bad for the blood pressure? And the Camaro, have you seen since I lowered it, added TTII wheels and changed the top to black? She be sweet... The olds goes under the knife end of next month for a new top(going black stayfast on her), trying to decide if I should powder coat the top frame or just repaint with POR15, or....

here's an example of a subthump convertible sub box (they don't make them anymore) for 2 10" subs. fits flush with the trunk well. you lose that trunk space, but it looks like it belongs there, blends right in. (SOLD)

yeah, the JBSlim box is the way to go. Get some high end subs, high end components in front doors, and power the hell out of them with a good size amp and it will sound great.
