I have '98 3.8 vert. Someone please explain the windscreen to me.
This is by far the most comfortable convertible I have ever ridden in as far as the lack of wind and turbulence in the front seats. My son gets beat up pretty good on the hi-way in the back seat, how much will this help with that? What is it's main purpose in this vehicle?
A) How many times do you ride someone one in your back seat? (G/f maybe) Rarely!
B) Lov it, wouldnt be without mine!
A pic from the rear with mine. Sorry, the pic was a lil choppy and another pic in my sig...
Actually quite often. It is my daily commuter (now)- due to the great gas mileage it gets and the reliability/longevity of the 3800. Wife wanted convertible for 3rd car, we had to have one with a back seat (6 year old son) and I was NOT going to buy a Chrysler, most of the acceptable cars were out of the price range I would allow- so when this one came available at a very good price (blown engine from used car lot- some kid took it for a test drive and exploded the #1 crank bearing) I snapped it up. Got a totaled '97 hardtop for $400 and swapped the engine out into my '98 vert. We absolutely love it, we are now down to 2 cars, my wife has "stolen" my ZJ ('98 Grand Cherokee) so this is now my DD. Not that I mind with the above 60 deg days we have been having. It was 80 yesterday on the way home from work, made me wish my commute was farther than 13miles. Not complaining, still takes me over 20min to get home and it is 80% hiway. Not horrible rush hour in KC, at least not like LA or DFW or something- frustrating none-the-less when it takes you twice as long to get home than during a non-rush hour commute. I can see a use for it (windscreen) but, it seems like too much of a pain to install/un-install. As I mentioned earlier, this is perhaps the best convertible I have ever ridden in as far as wind/noise is concerned, in the front seats with top/windows down. I can put the windows up and be on a phone call on the hiway even.
i do not understand how anyone cannot hate the look of the windscreens.
i hear you on the pain to install/uninstall - i feel the same way about the plastic covers that i never put on when i put the top down.
but look at it this way: with it installed, your 6 year old is basically in a cage.

I am VERY impressed with this car.
Yep, I am with you 100% on this, my SS is my DD, she gets from 17~19 MPG for me, which is way better than my other cars. And yeah, I am amazed by the lack of wind on the road, especially with the windows up. This is a great car, I bought one based on a friends recomendation, but I can't see me dealing with a windscreen on this car, very little as it is...... Now on my olds, well, that thing....... well, it was built in 68 so .... it is great for other reasons...
Once the main components of the screen are installed (mounting brackets) it will take you less than a minute to uninstall it every time. Very simple, to latches and thats it. I keep mine in 95% of the time and only ride with it up when I'm on the highway. its folded down the rest of the time so you dont even see it.
That would be great if it folded out of the back seat, still would not be usable with child in the backseat. Unless I am not seeing how it folds out of the way, the only way I can see that happening, is the 'windscreen' part folding down on top of the horizontal panel that covers the backseats.

Reason: spelling
The windscreen is not meant for rear seat passengers. When I have to bring my kids with me in the vert, I take the screen off the car and put it in it's storage bag in the garage. The way it folds up is the "vertical" section pivots on its hinges to lay flat on the "horizontal" section that covers the rear seats.
Thanks Nole Chick. That is about what I figured. How long does it take/how difficult is it to remove windscreen for periodic storage? (Not a problem for me, but wifey would be interested.)
Less than five minutes (including putting it in the bag and in your designated storage place). There are two "slip brackets" that fit over each rear seatbelt guide loop and the two bars that slide/lock into the mounting brackets behind each front passenger seatbelt retractor. In a pinch, I've bagged mine and stored it in the trunk (carefully w/o other cargo).
I really like mine . I just leave it installed & fold it down when I want to style . With the ladies though they like it up so it won't mess up their hair-do . Plus at night with the top up trucks can't blind you from behind and you can put stuff in the back seat & not have to worry about it blowing out at speed or people seeing whats back there . Well worth the money.
Took some pics of mine for everyone to see. I love having the top up with the windscreen up as well. Cuts down on all of the turbulance with the windows down.
