Default Spoiler???

I know its probably a stupid question thats been covered over a thousand and one times and I am prepaired for your sarcastic replies so here goes:

Why does the convertable TA get the firebird spoiler, and not the hard top TA spoiler? But the SS convertable gets the standard SS spoiler.

That, and there is a much bigger difference in the design between the Firebird/Formula vs TA spoilers than between the SS and Camaro/Z28 spoilers. The Camaro/SS spoilers just bolt onto the rear deck, be it a coupe or a 'vert. So the same part can be used on both the coupe and 'vert. Not so on the Firebird. If you look closely, while the Firbird/Formula coupe spoiler is very similar in appearance to the 'vert's spoiler, they are not exactly the same and are not interchangeable. The spoilers on the Pontiacs are part of the rear hatch / deck lid mold, which is significantly different between the coupes and 'verts. Thus, to make a 'vert-unique T/A spoiler, it'd have to be a completely new mold that is unique to T/A 'verts. Since 'verts make up a small minority of production volume, the GM beancounters undoubtedly drew the line there and made the TA 'verts use the same deck lid as the Firebird/Formula 'verts. Chevy didn't have to make that compromize since the coupes and 'vert spoilers are interchangeable.

You can always put the coupe spoiler on yourself, like this guy did:
