I am sending you a link to a diff on e-bay for $489.00 in PA, it is a 3.15 unit. You are pissing in the wind messing with that 2.73, 3.42 would be best but a 3.15 would work for the time being and help if you are having any traction issues. I would buy a used diff, install your hardened shaft and check the clutch packs along with new fluids. You could easily do it for $600.00.

That seems like the best plan. BTW, 3.15 gears should help with traction. Turbos put out big torque down low.

Thank you for the Pm,..I appreciate your time.

But I think you guys are wrong about the 2.73's and there capability on a car making 700+rwhp...on the stock bottom end. Whats gonna happen when I go to a built bottom end?....making even more power? Then,,....i'll have even more of an issue than I am having now. Lingenfelter, back when they did there popular TT setup on the C5...and shot the mag article.....that car, that did 226mph,...had 2.73's. When they went to the track, they did swap them out for 3.42's.

Now,..I don't want a slouch at low speeds but,...the only way this car will fall on it's face,..is if I walk it out of the hole like that(with 2.73's and my current setup) with no rpm launch. You gotta understand,..once the car is moving,...and it does reach upper rpm's,.... it's all shifting after that. Quick shifting is key to winning any race, street or track. Can't tell you how many races I see, mostly street race style videos(cause you can usually hear both cars shifting and how long it's taking to shift) that people are just taking FOREVER to shift. Even when they have the faster car CLEARLY,....it's just kills the whole purpose of owning a manual.

For example....listen to the camaro...listen at how long it takes to hit the gear...etc. Clearly it's a faster car but,..the incar camera car, is clearly driving better,...and making a good race out of it. The camaro,...if it would power shift, or atleast shift sometime this century,..would be a very hard to beat car.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPbHCw_TpeY

So,..again,...i'm no rear gear guru....but,..from what I think I know,...I think the 2.73 MIGHt be alright. Again,...i'm not bragging about dropping this gear in my car,...it's just the way it is unless something affordable falls into my lap.

I can make anything work. ...and I shift LIGHT YEARS quicker then dude in above video...

But again,...I am open to insight,...and I appreciate yours, and he link you sent me. I Would rather go to a 3.15-3.42 and change the gears in the tranmission to be honest with you.

Werd.

As it is, I can't keep tires on the car @ 130mph under load... hoping the taller gear will soften the hit and plant the power better.

Trust me when I say that is a bad idea, I worked for a shop that built a twin turbo Z06, we were making right at 1000 to the tire in the car. We decided to try and take it to some top speed testing so we changed the rear gear to a 2.73 for the top speed factor. With the tall gear that car was a dog!!! I bet it would have lost a good full second in the 1/4 if not more beacause of it. A little top speed ability is not worth that kind of down low acceleration loss. I have a disasembled 3.15 rear pumpkin sitting here I will sell you dirt cheap if it will keep you from puting that highway gear in. It is missing a few small parts but I think most everything you need is there. IMO the best all around setup for your car would be the 3.15s and Z06 M12 gearing.

Lingengelter uses 2.73 gears in a lot of their top speed twin turbo set-ups and it seems to work well for them, not sure what gears they use in the tranny.

I know RPM does most of their tranny work for these projects.

There is bound to be a used vette diff somewhere. Slap a cooling system on there as a charm to ward off the heat demon.

I chunked mine though as the limited slips get very toasty when you got wide meats on them with some torque.
The C6Z clutch packs and preload springs fit in the C5 carrier. You use regular gear oil with C6Z packs. DTE's needed some special oil. Not sure if the C6Z's hold as much power as the DTE's, though.

Wow, I cant imagine how anyone can use the term dog to describe a car with over 700 ft/lbs at the wheels.....I dont care what gear we're talking about.

Not to mention, with the 2.73s there will be more load on the turbos at all times, so they will likely spool faster, thus creating even more low-end torque than he has now, which is waaaaayyyy too much as it is.

Have you broken it down and done the math! Which gear will hit what MPH and with your current knowledge about what the car does with the old gear set up and any C5, Z06 etc. (LSX motord car). For example, you know a C5 Z06 will rip 1st to 55mph (est.) 2nd to 70ish...with the 3.42s. Then your car with twice the power should be fine hitting 68-70mph in first with 2.73s with 800hp....at the same time as the stock Z........Do you see what I'm saying? Anyways Do it......You will ramp, like you said, you can shift like hell.....The only reason I beat most people in street racing is due to crappy shifting, we all know that though...

Yeah they work out great for the top speed stuff but for any sort of drag racing they change back over to 3.42s. How is your project been coming along, I have been following it some on CorvetteForum.

Well, it wasent exacly slow but from driving it with the one set up vs the other you could dramaticly tell the differance.

I thought the same thing about the load on the car I was working on but it did not make any differance from what I could tell, of corse I don't know **** about turbos and compressor maps so I guess alot of that would go into the equation.

Well, what is dirt cheap my friend? I just talked to a friend, that has another 2.73 that was removed out of a car for a 3.90....and it's just sitting. He told me 150 bucks. I'm willing to spend that and put that in the car for the weekend.

What would you want for what you've got to get rid of? As far as parts missing...I have two diffs at work now that I could possibly use on yours,..if needed. So,..please,..let me know what you'd want for that.

I'm ready to go and pick this up cause it's local.

I have not broken down the mph's yet,...curious to know though, comparison wise.

Man there are some haters on here lol..
If you can find a 3.15 i would do that..
These ******* dont understand the whole point is to shift less, keeping the motor under load longer and unloading the suspension less.. The only problem i had when i used 3.08 gears i had to go to a 28" tire to kill wheel speed out of the hole.. You will see what i mean lol

The only things missing is the stamped aluminum rear cover and the gear the output shaft goes in. Other than that the carrier is out of the case but that is all. Where are you on the ease cost, depending on how close you are I could do 200 shipped.
