diff issues....thoughts from the pro's?
Thank you for the Pm,..I appreciate your time.
But I think you guys are wrong about the 2.73's and there capability on a car making 700+rwhp...on the stock bottom end. Whats gonna happen when I go to a built bottom end?....making even more power? Then,,....i'll have even more of an issue than I am having now. Lingenfelter, back when they did there popular TT setup on the C5...and shot the mag article.....that car, that did 226mph,...had 2.73's. When they went to the track, they did swap them out for 3.42's.
Now,..I don't want a slouch at low speeds but,...the only way this car will fall on it's face,..is if I walk it out of the hole like that(with 2.73's and my current setup) with no rpm launch. You gotta understand,..once the car is moving,...and it does reach upper rpm's,.... it's all shifting after that. Quick shifting is key to winning any race, street or track. Can't tell you how many races I see, mostly street race style videos(cause you can usually hear both cars shifting and how long it's taking to shift) that people are just taking FOREVER to shift. Even when they have the faster car CLEARLY,....it's just kills the whole purpose of owning a manual.
For example....listen to the camaro...listen at how long it takes to hit the gear...etc. Clearly it's a faster car but,..the incar camera car, is clearly driving better,...and making a good race out of it. The camaro,...if it would power shift, or atleast shift sometime this century,..would be a very hard to beat car.

So,..again,...i'm no rear gear guru....but,..from what I think I know,...I think the 2.73 MIGHt be alright. Again,...i'm not bragging about dropping this gear in my car,...it's just the way it is unless something affordable falls into my lap.
I can make anything work. ...and I shift LIGHT YEARS quicker then dude in above video...
But again,...I am open to insight,...and I appreciate yours, and he link you sent me. I Would rather go to a 3.15-3.42 and change the gears in the tranmission to be honest with you.

Trust me when I say that is a bad idea, I worked for a shop that built a twin turbo Z06, we were making right at 1000 to the tire in the car. We decided to try and take it to some top speed testing so we changed the rear gear to a 2.73 for the top speed factor. With the tall gear that car was a dog!!! I bet it would have lost a good full second in the 1/4 if not more beacause of it. A little top speed ability is not worth that kind of down low acceleration loss. I have a disasembled 3.15 rear pumpkin sitting here I will sell you dirt cheap if it will keep you from puting that highway gear in. It is missing a few small parts but I think most everything you need is there.
IMO the best all around setup for your car would be the 3.15s and Z06 M12 gearing.

There is bound to be a used vette diff somewhere. Slap a cooling system on there as a charm to ward off the heat demon.
I chunked mine though as the limited slips get very toasty when you got wide meats on them with some torque.
Not to mention, with the 2.73s there will be more load on the turbos at all times, so they will likely spool faster, thus creating even more low-end torque than he has now, which is waaaaayyyy too much as it is.

Well, it wasent exacly slow but from driving it with the one set up vs the other you could dramaticly tell the differance.
I thought the same thing about the load on the car I was working on but it did not make any differance from what I could tell, of corse I don't know **** about turbos and compressor maps so I guess alot of that would go into the equation.

I just talked to a friend, that has another 2.73 that was removed out of a car for a 3.90....and it's just sitting. He told me 150 bucks. I'm willing to spend that and put that in the car for the weekend.
What would you want for what you've got to get rid of? As far as parts missing...I have two diffs at work now that I could possibly use on yours,..if needed. So,..please,..let me know what you'd want for that.
I'm ready to go and pick this up cause it's local.

New to me as well.
If you can find a 3.15 i would do that..
These ******* dont understand the whole point is to shift less, keeping the motor under load longer and unloading the suspension less.. The only problem i had when i used 3.08 gears i had to go to a 28" tire to kill wheel speed out of the hole.. You will see what i mean lol
