*** I DID IT ! ! Smashed the 8-Scond Zone Today ***
Mission accomplished ! 8.87 at 155Mph .
I got in on a last minute rental today and after 2 weeks of sh*t weather here in the Northeast , I was salivating at the chance to race today , everything fell into place , just like I needed it to .
The track was good , not great , and took some time to figure out , I had some promising runs in the beginning of the day , tried a few new things , had some traction problems and was under the gun by the end of the day , the rental closes at 430pm , it was 415pm and I still didn't have that 8-second slip , all day I kept leaving with less boost 2-3lbs and playing with tire pressures and finally ran ran a 9.08 at 156 , almost there , pulled a 1.47 60ft , I came back around , let the car cool down about 5 minutes and pulled in to the burnout box at 427pm , did a short burnout and staged , I got to the line and said f*ck it ! I knew I had to come out harder but wasn't sure if the track would hold because it wasn't earlier on , I came up on the transbrake saw 5lbs and let it rip , I honestly knew it was an 8-second pass by about the 1000ft mark , the car was dancing around and pulling harder than it ever has , no way I was lifting , I hit the rev limiter right at the finish line . As Julio gave me the slip he told me it was a 9.01 , I was still happy , when I read it and it said 8.87 I almost jumped through the roof .
I finally got my 3700+lb pig in the 8's and I did it like I wanted to on the same wheels and tires I drive on every day , the car was driven to and from the track ( 145 miles round trip ) on my radials .
Here's a breakdown of the slip .
60ft-1.373
1/8th-5.744
1/8th MpH-125.00
1/4-8.874
Mph-155.29
And there's more in it , no boost controller , I'm running off the spring in my Tial-60 wastegate , the largest spring combo is 15lbs , I'm running a 14lbs spring , car is making 18lbs of boost . When I get the right boost controller I should be able to run another 3-4lbs of boost .
I'm very impressed with my Cartek 402 , the motor is a mild combo , no exotic parts , I was dead broke when I had Cartek build it , so it was a budget build .
Stock bore LS-2 block ,
Cartek Turbo Grind Hydraulic-roller cam , stock rocker arms .
Stock LS-6 Intake manifold , stock ported throttle body .
ETP 255 LS-1 Heads with stock Z-06 Exhaust manifolds .
I wonder what it would run with some 6-bolt LS-7 style heads and intake and a solid-roller ??
Huge props to the whole Cartek crew for all you've done for me over the last 8 years , I never could have done this with out you guys !
On to the driveline ,
my RPM Built 4L80E Trans is a f*cking beast ! I hot lapped the car a few times today and it never skipped a beat , you guys are the kings of the C5/C6 driveline world .
I've got some thinking to do over the winter , I may turn it up a notch , or I may just de-tune and enjoy it like I did most of this year . I achieved my goal of running 8's in a true street driven IRS A4 transmission C5 , now I will have to set a new goal .
The timeslip and video will be up shortly .

Mike, I don't know where to start man. We'd all figured that this sick and nasty street car that Cartek Racing built you could pull this off but of course it's NEVER easy running 8s. And it's impossible to run 8s in a late model Corvette that's driven 60-70 miles to and from the track on the very tires it races on, or so many thought up until today.
That RPM trans really holds it's own as well, great work by all of those that contributed to making this beast what it is today.
Julio knows LSx motors and Julio knows turbos, NO doubts there.
Much, much congrats to you and the entire crew at Cartek Racing.

Incredible! I read your sig and it sounds like you have a respectable 11 second car. I was atleast expecting a 250 shot of nitrous. And certainly didn't expect any corvette to dip in the eights with out a solid axle.
I'm amazed. Congrats!
