Default c5 top end build and stall info

debating whether to put a nasty top end package on my c5 vette already with 3:73 kooks long tubes and full catback and brand new drag radials...how does a stall converter effect the drivability.....i know jack **** about stall converters and really what they do....want tfs heads custom roller cam fast intake and all the other boltons with it....please give me a little stall 101.....and or should i just get a six speed bc im sure im gonna break some **** adding that power like tranny and my shitty stock rear end...kinda wanna finish it since i already spent the big money on the gears and exhaust...thanks guys

I can tell you from first hand experience that you should buy a name brand stall and you will never regret it.

If on a budget this is my recommendation:
Name Brand Stall 3200-3600 no bigger, no smaller.
Name Brand shift kit. Really helps stock tranny.
External tranny cooler and ditch the heatsoaked one inside the radiator.
Get a really good tune and start ripping people out the hole.

If decent amount of money to spend this is my recommendation:
Name Brand Stall 3200-3600 no bigger, no smaller.
External tranny cooler and ditch the heatsoaked one inside the radiator.
Name Brand Built A4.
Name Brand built diff w/ HD shafts on both sides.
Get a really good tune and start ripping people out the hole.

Then when you have more money spend it making more power on a combo that will already put down very consistant and quick et's.

I've had 3 different converters in 2 of my C5's.
Stock converter
Stock converter re-worked to a 2500 stall
Y**K converter 3200

From one to the next was a big difference in acceleration. I've also installed several more on clients C5's and will never recommend less than 3200 if you are really into racing of any kind.

Drivability wise it's not an issue for me. You can tell the car feels like it needs a little more throttle from a stop to get moving under normal conditions, but it is something you get use to within a few days. It's not like you sit there at a light until you hit 3200 and then bam it takes off. It is kinda like starting from a stop in 2nd instead of 1st.

The bottom line is this. Auto cars rip with a good stall and gears!
Look at my vette. It's only got a VaraRam, Cam, & LT's for bolt-ons running stock 853 heads and still cuts 1.63 sixty foots and runs 7.31 in the 1/8 mile, mainly because it has the stall and gears to pull it off with a motor that I would consider weak compared to what most guys have.

Hope this helps in your quest for speed.
