Default Ls3 dyno numbers

We took my friends 08 corvette to get dynoed at HPE. The car is a bone stock 08 corvette with the LS3 engine and Z51 package, to our surprise the car dynoed 400 rwhp and 393 rwt. After seeing those numbers we talked to my buddy Gary owner of HPE and we are getting an HPE cam package with all the other bolt on's hoping to get over the 500 rwhp on cam only. Thanks for all your help Gary and we'll update on the new numbers as soon as we get all this parts on.

Are those SAE #'s? Please post dyno sheet. If that is SAE than you have a STRONG LS3.

I never got to baseline mine, but it turned 426rwhp and 420rwtq with boltons in sig.

You should be good for 500rwhp with good sized cam. I love these new heads!

interesting that gained 10 HP after the first run.

First one I've seen hit 400 rwhp stock. The LS3 is amazing. I almost bought an 07 untill I drove the 08.

The LS3 C6's are just too easy to make power in! If the LS3 had been around a few years earlier I probably would've ended up buying an '05 C6 over my Z06.

I find that interesting too. Was the first run with the motor warm/hot, and the second run was done after a long cool down ?? The ls3's are notorious for pulling timing as certain temps are reached. A hot motor being put under load like that could pull a few degrees of timing based on the elevated ECT, and put down a lower number.

Not pissing on your parade, just trying to understand what is making your bonestock ls3 different and/or better then everyone elses. Either way with 11000 on the clock she's broken in and making nice power. Throw some headers on it, (LG Pro Longtubes) and a tune she'll probably make 440 rwhp. Wishful thinking, but good luck.

Thumbs up

Yeah those numbers are very high but still quite believable as I think someone once dyno'd 396rwhp in bone stock trim as well.
Dynos do vary of course.

No I was just saying that if they did then I would've bought a C6 over my C5Z (couldn't afford an '08 at the time).

That's stout... I agree w/ Red99TA... the LS2 powered C6 never interested me. The LS3 is awesome. As someone who's modded cars constantly I can honestly say I'd get an '08 and leave the mods to a CAI nad some LT headers and call it a day.

I've dynoed and tuned at least 15 LS3s. I've never seen a bone stocker over 380 untuned.

Crank the smoothing up to 5 and watch it loose a few hp and tq.

Yeah I'd like to see the #'s with the smoothing on 5, still strong though. If anyone around my way has a stocker I'd like to throw it on the heartbreaker.

And if anyone around my way has one I'll give it a free pass on the butt dyno. It's accurate to +/- 50HP

Damn economy worked in my favor, because I was very close to buying an 07 C6 coupe brand new. I would not buy a Z06 because of the fixed roof, but damn it sounds like you can have your cake and eat it too with the LS3!

I wonder how it handles FI, and how the 6L80E is holding up to big power.

I'm not too familiar with what the smoothing does, but as far as the temp actually the first run the engine temp was 185 degrees and the next runs were at normal temperature they were done back to back. It did surprise me that when the engine was colder we got the lowest number, but Gary at HPE was telling me that most of the LS3 that he has dynoed, even his which he uses for testing always has made more power at normal temperature.

I think the ls3's stock tune begins pulling timing above 200 degrees in effort to protect the motor. I know I heard about how finicky they are with KR and ECT sensitive.
