Help!! Locked steering wheel on C5

Help!! Locked steering wheel on C5 I just bought this 01 c5 & the steering collum has locked down on me. Live in small town, chevy mech has never heard of it. Only have appx 2 vette's in town, counting mine. Leaving town tomorrow & don't want to leave it outside all week. Any help as to what to do??? Thanks in advance

Re: Help!! Locked steering wheel on C5 YOu can buy a bybass kit for the steering lock. Do a search on the corvette forum. THere are alot of post on how to unlock it.

Re: Help!! Locked steering wheel on C5 Thanks everyone for your help! Finally got it, the guys on vette forum told me what fuse to pull & it worked. Just in case anyone else has it happen to them it is fuse #25 in the inside fuse box. Thanks again, got her in the garage.

Re: Help!! Locked steering wheel on C5 The fuse pull will only work in certain situations. Mine locked twice, and none of the simple fixes worked. So after the 2nd time and several phone calls to GM customer service, they fixed it under the recall campaign. BEWARE! It is a near guarantee that it will lock again, so either get the Column lock by-pass from Corvettes of Houston, or have it serviced under the recall campaign ASAP.

Re: Help!! Locked steering wheel on C5 All year C5's with 6 speed transmissions can have the issue, and pre 2001 A4's can have the issue. There is a gm recall, but the recall isn't a 100% fix either (unless you have an A4, then the recall will totally remove the column lock). Its all about playing your odds.
Some 2003's have already had their column lock up from what I've seen.
