Default 408 w/F1-C

Here's the deal. I'm starting the build on the Vette in the next couple of weeks and we're getting parts lined out. It's a 2002 S/W coupe with an A4. I'm selling the builder my longblock so I decided to go ahead with the engine now and install the blower this summer when I'm home.

Going with an iron block 408" and EPP's 8-rib F1-C set-up. This is pretty much a daily driver. I have the shortblock specs all set, now I just need heads. I'm not spending $$$$$ on them since I'm doing this as a temp. fix while my Camaro is down for it's build.

Good heads for less than $1000. I have a line on some patriot stage 3 317s. Anyone have a better idea?

317 are not bad, but I would go with L92 heads. They have a thicker deck height and flow a lot more untouched. Only down side is they have smaller chambers so the compression level will be higher than 317. If have not already ordered the pistons for the new shortblock, that problem can be solved easily with a bigger dish piston.

Thanks for the input man. A few people are actually pushing me towards the L92s as well..I just wasn't sure if I wanted to bother with changing intakes and the offset rockers. I'm having him work me out a cost comparison vs. sticking with my ls6 intake so we shall see.

With my 408 with AFR 225 and the F1C I was making 933 hp at 6200 rpm and spinning the tires on the dyno. I would put my vote in some nice AFR or even better Trickflow 235s. You already spent money on a built engine and F1C so don't go cheap on the heads now. And good luck on the daily driving part.

I live/work in Iraq so daily driving to me is taking the car for a nice cruise when I go back to Oklahoma for a visit. Did the power tour last year. I posted this over on the Forced Induction section and we're further discussing cam/head choice. I'm actually waiting to hear back from LME on some 245 Trickflows right now. Thanks for the input and great looking car!

Check out the above build where we reused the customer's Patrot LQ9 stage 2 heads from his 346 on a new LS2/402 we built for him. We also reused his Borla shorty headers. I couldn't talk him out of reusing these parts, in case you're wondering why we would use stage 2 heads on a 402... lol Bob
