Default 1992 Vette

I am looking at a 92 auto vette with 109000 on the clock for a daily driver. Its really clean and well taken care of and I might get it for $4000. Everything works that I can tell its not a z51. But Is there anything that I need too pay close attention to before I make an offer. Also is there any websites that I can run the vin?

Dave

'92 was the first year of the LT1. 300 HP, fun daily driver.

You just have to watch out for the opti-spark, also known affectionately as the opti-crap.

Some last forever, others go out frequently. You can read about it here:

At that price I wouldn't let it deter you though, LT1 vettes are great fun cars, and definitely a good bang for the buck...

At one point vettes had problems with battery leakage and resulting corrosion. May not apply back to 92, but worth taking a look for when inspecting the car.

Opti-spark is the biggest issue...can be an expensive repair. Check to see if the owner has had it replaced, which I assume with 100k miles it would have had to. Also, check the rubber seals in the hatch...those can get dried out quickly. Also, the rear speakers and CD are known to fail. Outside of that, price of replacing the tires is the only other down side. Can't beat it for $4k.

I had a 94 and 95 and they were both great cars! Put 50k miles on my 94 and in 2 years and it was my daily beater at the time.
