Thanks for the replies guys...
Exactly the type of info I was looking for.
BTW, I posted this question on the C6 and road racing sections of the forum and the consensus was the C5 ZO6 also.
But you're right, it really just comes down to which one looks better to you personally and what your budget is.

Me personally, I would never trade my Z in on an '05-'07 C6, because I'm still at the point where performance for the money matters most to me right now. It would be a downgrade.

And it doesn't make sense to jump into an '08+ LS3 C6 because their prices are still high right now and again, handling-wise, not quite on par with the Z.

When I get out of the C5 Z I want it to be another big leap forward (like a C6 Z).

Here is a good ?. What if you were buying a vette to mod it. What will be better to mod and what will last longer. So in another words what vette (c5 or c6) will hold the power of a 441 or something close to this.

Check out what this 08 LS3 M6 went for. It's too low for me to show it....OK, I will. This sold for $29,988, amazing even though it was a GM track test car. With prices like this, it's hardly worth even getting a C6Z, well kind of.

With the right ported heads/cam and choice bolt ons 510rwhp is not out of reach. Amazing cars all of them really but the more displacement, the better.

Your question about modding throws everything out the window. Once modding starts nothing can be compared as equal because dollars and goals are not the same. And to say lets add the same mods to each and then compare is no different than comparing stock so why bother. IF you want true performance learn to drive. Most think they can until they are put on a track with an instructor. Then they realize they can't. Driver mod cannot be beat period.

I'll add my two cents. I own an 05 C6 and had considered a slightly used C5Z at the time. Bought my 05 brand new in May of 05 based mostly on looks. I still slightly prefer the looks of the C6. I kind of wish I had driven a C5Z prior to my 05. I got run a few C5Z's at the track, then drove a friends and not only was it quicker but a bit more uncivilized, raw if you will. Stock for stock, all else being equal, the C5Z (at least the 02+) is quicker in the drags. I love my C6 and it's modded now but I think you will certainly be happy with the C5Z.

I think this is a first, a C6 owner telling you to get the C5Z. Nice to hear the honestly though.

I guess this is why i read about C6 owners selling, and getting back into C5Z's....

My favorite car is the 04 Commerative ZO6. But my 08 A-6 will eat a slightly modded Z all day long.

I think he's talking about his modded car, which has "who knows what" on it in order to "eat" a modded C5Z

Actually, come to think of it, it's a pointless post because, what's the point of posting "well my supercharged C6 eats C5Z's for breakfast"...??

Ok...put a supercharger on the C5Z and see what happens!

Given equal drivers and conditions, mod for mod, the Z would win because:

A) It's lighter
B) It handles better
C) It has a more aggressive M12 transmission
D) All of the above

Hey, I should post a poll lol

If he's talking about his stock C6...then there must be something in the water around here because we sure have been getting a lot of these types of posts lately, especially in the kill stories section...

"My bolt-on LS1 eats intake/exhaust/pullied/tuned Cobras all day long"

Yeah....ok buddy....driven by a parapalegic...sure....

driven by a competent driver....no....

Total opposite of what I heard. Slightly modded C5Z's are well into the 11's.

Exactly. I have yet to see a stock 08 break into the 12's in Vegas stock. Alot of C5 Z06's have and I am the first to hit 11's with bolt ons.

When my CE 04 Z06 was stock, I could take a stock C6 (LS 2) any day of the week. I was able to race a friend in his C6 (LS 2), then we swopped cars and raced again with the same results (couldn't blame it on the driver). I only raced one C6 (LS 3) and I was still able to beat it. When I beat the LS3, it was not by much. With that said, you do get some that run really good and others that run like crap.

I also have a friend who is one of the lead techs at the second largest Corvette dealers in the US. He told me that the C5 Z06 is faster than a LS3 a MAJORITY of the time. They do a lot of test drives if you know what I mean Now thats not to say that a C6 LS3 stock could never beat a C5 Z, it racing and with racing there are a ton of variables.

Once you mod one up, then all bets are off. At this point, it is all up to the combination and even then some will make more power than others with the same combo.

Lets be honest guys, who really buys a vette and keeps it BONE STOCK, there is not that many peopl who do. So if someone is looking to buy a C5 or C6 and they want to throw some mods at it, then I think it comes down to personal preference. Besides C5 or C6 we are all on the same team!!!!

I've had two C6s and a Procharged 2004 C5Z

I can't comment on the power-to-power difference, but I can comment on my pros and cons.

Warranty (again depending on the mod friendly nature of your dealer this could be tossed out the window). The 08s will have a great warranty, but you may be able to find an 04 Z06 w/ GMPP.

Looks and accessories - Small things like HID lights (I can't go back to not having these), factory NAV (I know Aftermarket is ALWAYS better), and many other creature comforts - not to mention the "aged" feel of the C5.

All in all I like the overall look of the C6. Again if you are looking for a track only car get a cheap high mileage Z06 (or even cheaper a 99 FRC), gut it, and beat it until you need a fresh engine rebuild.

Also, keep in mind the C6 albiet a bit more pricey, is at 0% financing for 60 months and 72 months at 1.9%.

Either way - you are driving a Corvette enjoy!!!

That procharged Z must've been a screamer.
