Default Well? Do it?

hey guys,

it looks like i might have finally sold my GTO....which means I could get my C6Z I've been drooling over for awhile now.

Never driven one, don't expect to find a reason why I wouldn't like it.

Payments will be a little steap, but, might be worth it. Granted since I live in Ohio it feels like I can only drive it 2 months a year, but I think with the Jet Stream Blue, I could go to the car shows, park it, and still get attention and have fun.

I've NEVER spent anything close to this much on a car...but I think the performance for the money has to be the best out there?

I'm looking at an 08.....should I pull the trigger?

...btw, I turn 24 on Saturday, be young and dumb and enjoy the ride?

As long as you can take he hit. You may get stuck in it, look on CF and you will find guys with them wanting to trade up a year or into a ZR1 and the dealers don't even want them on the lot, they can't sell them for what they are "worth". They are only worth what some guy is willing to pay.

I am going to grab an 06 C6Z next since they are already in the $38-39K range now. Thats a bargin.

08's are in the mid $50's, not sure what they will be worth in 12-36 months.

I haven't been able to find 1 08 in the $50k range that doesn't have miles on it, or hasn't been beaten on.

Thats sort of my reasoning for looking at barely used, or ones traded in for ZR1's. I want to drive the hell out of the car, and know i wont be breaking anything because the previous guys beat the hell out of it.

Or should I throw that and the warranty out the window and look for a used one?

I could be off with the price of 08's since I only look at 06's. I don't care about the warranty, personally.

If you want the warranty, grab an 07 for cheapness and still warranteed (07+ have the 100K powertrain warranty from GM but you better not mod it). I will grab an 06 myself. Mod the hell out of it and if it breaks, I will have to fix it.

BTW, they have all been beaten on. Most guys I see are the nerdy type (not all) that can't drive, the worst guys to beat on cars too. They hold up well though.

They're a great car, just don't mortgage your future on it. If you don't have the savings to make a big car payment and your rent for a few months if your job disappears, then look for something lower price like an 06 or an ultra clean C5 Z06 and throw a few mods on it.

If you find an 06 or 07 with six months on the warranty, that's enough. In six months any hidden defects you missed on the test drive and inspection will surface.

Why not get a C5Z and boost it? It wont look nearly as good, but the performance is definitely there.

No point in contributing to all the dumbasses buying things they can't afford.

I'm absoluetly sold on the C6Z

I thought about the C5 for awhile, but just can't do it now.

I'm also sold on my color, Jet Stream Blue....but for some reason I'm thinking that color started in 07, does that sound right?

I am nervous about the warranty...for the fact I'll void it. I can do the work myself on fixing things. Cars seem to be built well.

Oh, another thing for not wanting a "beaten on" car

I'm tired of fixing things!!

I got my race car to work on, I just want a car I can beat on myself, without going 'well i have to change the clutch this year'

I'd like to go a few summers without having to touch anything other than performance upgrades by my choice lol

QFT. Soon as I see C6 Z's hit the $30k mark I am probably trading my baby in for one (and I love my car lol).

I'll just keep an eye out for the perfect one, low mileage, $30k....boom, pull the trigger...Hopefully that will happen in the next couple of years or so.

In the meantime, content with my current ride

I'd get what you want. For me, I drove a silver 08 Z06, but I couldn't pull the trigger on it. I could almost buy 3 C5 Z06's for the price of 1 C6Z06. Keep in mind this was last year when they were holding their value at the dealers. The other thing for me is that I HATE the big back window on a C6 Z06. To me, the C5 Z06 really stood out (you could fake one with a FRC) and you knew it was a Z06. The C6's anyone can buy the parts to covert a non Z06 to a Z06. For the cash, I'd buy a Jet Stream Blue C6 non Z06 and throw some go fast parts and save a ton of $$$$$.

Hey, they are falling.

Here is the local one to me, an 06 w/19K for sale on the lot for $45K (been there twice).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...1%7C240%3A1308

I just got an email from them, they will sell it for $41,500 out the door. That is right around $39K for a car that cost $70K only 2 years ago. Once they hit $39K as the average ($46K is still the average for 06's) they will start selling. I don't see how they can go much less than 35K though, Jesus that's a bargin, as long as you didn't buy it new anyway.

Kinda like real estate, my wife and I looked at a new 3/2.5 2 story Town Home here thats 2 yrs old, never lived in, $340K new and in bank sale for $161K

You could grab a C6 and do H/C/Bolt ons/N20 like me and a few others but, its never going to be a C6Z. I am learning NOT to settle.

Any modded car will require extra attention though.

Not fixing it necessarily but something.

Thats what I really like with the C6Z. Custom cam/Cnc'd heads/ported intake/TB/CAI/LT's and a tune and they will break 560rwhp but with the right cam, drive beautifully. Add a small 125 shot (with a good tune) and your looking at a great street/race/exotic car for under $50K. Amazing.

What are you worried about breaking. My C6 has 38K now and I have litterally ripped it apart and put it back together and it has never even given me an issue.

I would be a little concerned about the LS7 in general but other than changing the factory rockers/springs and not allowing Jiffy Lube to change the oil, it should be fine. If not, yank it and repair it.

Thats the thing, I don't want to have to start pulling things apart. What are you worried about the LS7 for?

to bad the JSB is 2008 only that sorta makes my choice right there i guess

dealers don't make sense to me

I started talking with them on a car (email tire kicking) and the price was $64...firm

then I got them to $62k firm, buy it today

well that was Jan, now I get a message from them today (Feb) and its $54k!!!!

2LZ, JSB, 2,100 miles - traded in by a senior for a ZR1 PLUS they would install a full clear bra protection package on it

CRAZY

I'm tempted to wait a month and see if it drops another $10k LOL

I am mainly concerned with spraying the LS7, there is a fine line for too much. Otherwise they are fine. The rockers and springs are the only concern.

I knew I remembered hearing guys on CF asking in the 50's for them. I don't think they will drop much in the next month, I watch them like a hawk on Autotrader, Ebay, CF and Cars.com. You will save another $5K in about 6 months though. I am looking for an 06 only and they will be at $36K-$38K very soon. 07's are even getting in the mid $40's now.

What are you planning on doing to it?

just paying for it LOL
Probably "nothing" this summer, just enjoy it.

I don't want to go hog wild, but a intake/Kooks/Corsa would be first

Maybe a cam at the same time, keep it under 600rwhp and be damned happy

Man that is sweet. I clicked on the link and saw the $38k price and almost bought it myself lol. Then I realized the reserve hadn't been met yet lol.

Yep, been there done that, when I was deciding between the Z, C6, and the Cobra (this was 2 years ago), the one thing I kept coming back to was "it's a cool car...but it's not a Z..."

There's just something about the Z...
