Seen them on a few cars and only on the driver fender, have no idea what they are there for, if you guys could let me in on this i'd greatly appreciate it.

Gran Sport stripes.

Don't know all the details but back in the 60's when they created the original grand sport Corvette and road raced it they put the stripes on the car's fendor to know which it was. The two stripe car was the big winner.


In the 90s GM did a replica Grand Sport where it was Blue with white stripe down the middle of the car and two red stripes on the left fendor.


So the two stripes on the fendor is kind of to honor the race heritage.

A few years ago they did a Ron Fellows (road racer) edition C6 Z that is all white with two red stripes on each fender.

The reason that they put the stripes on the original grand sport was because the car was white, same color as the walls at the race track and they didn't trip the timing lights when they went by so they put the stripes on the car so that the cars would trip the lights.
