Default Which c5 is best for this?

I have allways been into heads up outlaw drag cars. I found a youtube video of some nasty 8 second street vettes. Now I think I need to build me one!

My question to you guys is there any year of car better suited for a boosted setup.

Are automatic transmissions better for boosted setups?

I'm looking for 1998-2002 year models to mod the hell out of is this good?

Does high mileage cars hurt in this case?

THX Steven

I you plan to run 8 sec 1/4's then who cares what the mileage is. To do that you're going to need a new motor along with the F/I setup. Or at least a forged shortblock with lots of boost, solid axle, gears, and some great traction. If you want to be consistent at the track then an auto is generally the best bet.

I agree, Any C5 other than the Vert would be a good choice... Your going to have to build a Motor, your also going to need to put a Solid Axle in it. Unless you want to spend a lot of money replacing rears. I say that because if you plan on racing a lot, that would be the way to go.. Just my .02 worth.

You could also go with a PG for the tranny..

So, if possible get a lower milage car so the parts you take off will be wroth a little more money going towards new stuff?

You could buy this...

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-c...-for-sale.html

or pick up an frc, (they're lighter) put a powerglide in it with a turbocharged, forged LSx and a solid axle.

I plan on doing something similiar but with a 78-82 C3 with an LSx and no power adder. Just a bad-*** N/A vette.

Most of all - have fun

Pennies on the dollar to pickup Boweryboy's car. Lot of R&D already on the car and has gone the numbers you are talking about

Have you ever driven anything relatively close to an 8 second car?

Not trying to offend any one here by wanting to build a bad *** car from the strart. I just wanted to make sure I went in the right direction to start. My brother and I built this truck to play with. Now I want to try something diffrent that has a strong aftermarket following to get parts from. This motor motor has no to very little aftermarket.

This tank goes 9.0s-9.1 teens and this is how you go hunting the 8s the hard way!

Sorry the IMG is small on the truck.

That is a pretty stout car right there. I want to build it myself so I understand the componets I am useing. I would like to start in the mid 9 second area and work down. Like any race car you open the doors and just start pouring money into them!

Any idea how much lighter a FRC car is over a coupe? The FRC cars are my first pick but if a automatic/coupe is better choice then I will go that route.

I would guess a couple hundred pounds between an FRC and a coupe.
