Default Header install

Has anyone done the headers on a C5 Z06? How hard is it? I did the ones on my Mach 1 and you have to drop the entire k member on that car. Is it that involved on a Z? Another question is a 92mm ported Fast intake that much better than a ported 90mm Fast intake? How hard is that swap, from the stock intake to a Fast?

Intake swaps are easy. Just be sure to follow the tightening/torquing sequence. I don't know if one fast is better than the other you mentioned but they should be very close. C5 header install is fairly simple. I installed LG streets on my 01 Z myself on jackstands in one afternoon, not removing anything but valvecovers and oil filter. Easier than my F-body.

+1 on the ease of install for the headers. I was so dumb to have sent it to the shop the ended up Monkey ******* my car during the install. I could've done it myself with the help of a friend. Oh well, had it not been for that I would've never gone to Texas and probably would've still been riding around in a vararam/lg pro longtube headers w/bullet catback car. Instead I'm sporting a stroker bro.

You can easily do the headers with another set of hands.

My Kooks 1 7/8 also were a pain in the ***. Had to loosen the motor mounts and lift each side of the engine putting them in. Really had to get rammy and shoehorn them in there. Removed oil filter, starter, coil packs.

Took me and a buddy about 6 hours. With 1 hour of driving around getting gaskets and some other thing. All i did was take off the alternator, both valve covers (needed to replae the gaskets), and the oil filter. I took off the motor mount nuts (they are located on the underside of the k memeber. Two of them and then come right off. Very easy) and then jacked up the motor as far as i could and got both my LG Street headers in from the top of the car. It was very easy, just time consuming...

Took me about 6 hours as well. Just took off the alternator/coil packs/starter. Only reason it took so long is we forgot about spark plugs and when we tried to install the headers we broke 2 plugs so we had to go buy new ones. But other than that you shouldnt have a problem. Just make sure to get a tune after the install.

Similar experience with Kooks 1 7/8. Good quality and like them a lot but a pain to drop in from the top. Second time around the engine and k member were out. Much easier to install from the bottom that way.

Don't try to drop the driver side in from the top without removing the alternator.

Yea I forgot that we removed the alternator also. I can see how the 1 7/8 would make a huge difference over the 1 3/4 LG headers. I mean that extra 1/8 would have really helped with slipping them in! Quality is awesome and I love them.

Must be a kooks thing. I had the 1 7/8 headers on my WS6 that I had and they were a royal pain in the *** to install. I am gonna be getting a FRC here soon and already have a set of 1 7/8 ARH headers waiting to be put on. Hope they go in easier than the kooks did on my WS6.

Haha, yea, well the Kooks 1 7/8ths were NOT going in from the bottom, I can tell you that for sure. I've had them on for a good while now and they kick ***.

Headers are really easy on a c5, I've done mine and my friends z06, if you are going to run a FAST be sure you have it off when you do the headers because when you go to jack your motor up to get the headers to fit you'll crush the MAP sensor on the firewall because of how far back the FAST sits. That's what happened to my car and it ran like crap for 2 days before I figured out the problem. You could also buy the Lingenfelter relocation kit to relocate the MAP to the front, but it's not as clean.
