Default Best Shifter for C5

I am finishing up the process of buying and will have a 98 C5 Vette tomorrow. I plan on putting black Z06 Motorport wheels and I'm trying to find the best short throw shifter. What would you guys recomend as the best short throw for the car?

Thanks.

its personal preference. i LOVE my kirban. but a lot of people dont like how notchy and rigid it feels. but thats what i was after.
the c6z is a popular one for the c5, its tighter and more precise, but dosent loose that stockish feel.

again, all on what your after.

I have a B & M short throw for my C5 zo6 and love it, it also has the notchy/rigid feel.

I gotta go with the C6Z06 shifter. Installs in less than an hour, bolts right in. Most ergonomic **** I've seen/used. Shorter throw, more crisp and precise.

I have had the hurst and now the MGW. The MGW is hands dwon the better of the two in my opinion.

What shifter fits you may be different. Your best bet is to try to drive a car that has a certain shifter installed.

You may also find that the same shifter in two different cars shifts better or worse. I have noticed this in a few cars with the same shifter.

Had a c6zo6 shifter when I bought the car. Sold it and installed a Kirban. Hated it. Traded the Kirban for another c6zo6 shifter and that's final.

I really like my C6 ZO6 shifter in my 02 ZO6. Shorter throw and more precise than the C5 shifter. The **** feels better in the hand also. A very good alternative to the notchy feel of the more race oriented shifters. Works great for me and looks nice too.

Another vote for the C6Z06 shifter. I had the stock shifter for 1 season, went with the Hurst the past 2 seasons and now the C6. Hurst is nice if you want a more ratchety feel though and with all the different springs they give you it allows you to adjust the stiffness.

Congrats on the 'vette purchase too.

Look in the C5 parts and C6 parts for sale section(s).

They usually cost about $100... not a bad price considering the improvement.

I mean, the C6Z shifter is VERY nice! I have one... but it will never COMPARE to the feel of an agessive aftermarket shifter like the Hurst!

I bought my Z06 to go fast and the stock shifter is holding me back!!! The C6Z is still to long for my taste....I like the "wrist" shift of the Hurst!!!

Cool. Thanks. I'm going to pull the console apart to find out which short shifter I have in there now. I don't mind how short the throw is, but it's REALLY stiff.

I love my BPP short throw shifter. You can adjust it to suit your needs. My buddy has one in his vette and loves it also. He says it is a shorter throw than when he had a pro 5.0 and lou's short stick on his WS6. Plus you can change the springs in it with the kit they give you. Can go from like stock to pretty darn stiff with those springs. Best shifter out there bar none!

I have not tried any other brands, but I love the feel of my MGW - seems to be everything its cracked up to be. At first I had a **** that was a little bit tall on it and recently switched to a billiard ball style and it feels awesome. If you feel like spending the money, I say go for the MGW - otherwise I have heard many good things about the C6Z shifter.

Default Best C5 shifter

MGW is the best shifter available for a C5. I have had a Kirban and c6Z and liked them both. But now am running the MGW and won't change again. I do however use the C6 ****. In the end you should try a few at the next Corvette outing you attend and see what you like best. Good luck.

I just looked at the MGW shifter... That looks like a seriously good quality shifter.

Thanks everyone for the input...I am gonna get the MGW shifter with a biliiard style ball. I ordered chrome ZO6 motorsports today and they should be on by Saturday. I still can't believe I'm 19 years old and just got a C5 vette.
