Default Manual to auto conversion

I am thinking about converting my 6 speed Z06 to an automatic. What all do you need to do this. I am assuming flex plate, torque converter, auto trans. I am unsure about the torque tube, wiring, tcm, ect....

I did my 2000, m6 to a4.. Torque tube, late model, flex plate, bell housing, you can use a TCI controler for the tranny that way you don't have to change the Vin number, I also used a B&M tranny cooler, and left the stock radiator in place. Shifter assy, and cover. you will need the complete set of cooler lines. You can choose the converter depending on appl you are going to use this setup for. Oh and the brake pedal assy..

I want to convert to the a4 for two reasons. I broke a ring or ringland at the track Thursday so the motor has to come out. The second reason is since I am drag racing I can spool up the turbos at the line. Thanks for the info.

Look to pick at least a half second in the quarter...
Try the Yank 3,600 converter

VET346 What do you mean by late model torque tube. My car is an '03 or am I missing something here. It's a late model for a C5.

Where are u located? Use the tci trans controller and there are some differences between the c5 and c6z diffs. There are 2 ways to solve this, depending on budget and hp. Do u plan on running quicker than 9.90s or so? I have done this a couple of times, the exhaust gets a little tricky on the pass side going over the axle-shaft, but patience stops it from hitting. There are a few things that need to be done so that all the computers "talk" to each other and the trans has a tune of it's own. U can also have a "performance" button for the trans that changes shift points and feel based on the tune and driver selection. Ohh, did I mention the paddle-shift option? Check my sig and see if u think I am qualified

Junk I am in Richmond Virginia. Well my budget has gotten smaller since I have bottom end problems. Obviously that won't be cheap. To answer your question I want to run mid 9s. I currently have an sts rearmount turbo setup that I am not that liking too much. A friend of mine is working on some custom manifolds so I can move the turbos upfront. I am also going to pull the motor and hone and forge the bottom end. I have a new c5 rear diff and a new c6 z06 rear so I can use either. As far as the automatics are concerned should I go for the 6l80 or is that going to be more of a headache. I am trying to come up with my wish list and see if it fits my budget.

Dlong, what I mean is the doaner car w/auto you will want a late model 02 or 04 auto... they have larger bearings in the tube.. I ran a stock bottom end LS1 with a A4 4L60 3 rib c5 rear, pulling 1.4x 60's 10.7's using a 4400 sthl .. It's a little bit more of a job putting in a larger tranny but it can be done.. Give Rodney a call at RPM I'm sure he could help as well.

Using the 4l80 trans requires some metel rib removing (read:CUT) from the rear trans tunnel to make it fit. U also need the adaptor plates from RPM. If u use the 4l60e and the c5 diff, u will need the rear cradle from a c5. If u want to use the C6Z diff, it has 30 spline pinion instead of 27 like the c5, so u will need a 30 spline output shaft for the trans and adaptor plate, again from RPM or IPS motorsports, but u can keep the c6 rear cradle. If u are going lower than high 9s, and u don't build your own trannys, I would go 4l80. I have run low 9s, but I can build the 4l60e while in my sleep and it uses less hp. Depends on your skills/budget/ and expectation of trans life. Built right and with the right convertor, the 4l60 can deliver 1.3x 60fts and make 7k rpm 3rd gear up-shifts @ 700+ hp about 125-150 times b4 the 3/4 clutch pak is gone. To me, it's no more work than changing a clutch for a manual (only 150 passes there too). Hope this helps point u in the right direction.
