Default Turbo for Z06

I am looking for info on turbo kits on the market except for the LPE kit because it is too much money. I have seen the Cerra single and the breathless twin but really can't find much info on dyno #'s or pictures of installs or even customers experiences with the kits. Please help me I need info.

Thanks

I'd look in the forced induction section on Covette forum. All the kits are there Halltech , TTI, Cerra, etc...

Look through some of the Corvette and GM magazines. Cerra has an advertisement in there w/ an 01/02 Z06 pushin like 525hp.

Cerra's site says their single kit can make 550bhp and 600 ft/lbs. And their TT setup made 437rwhp and 498 rwft/lbs. Which is around 500bhp and 572 ft/lbs w/ a 15% DT loss (just using that as a base). Which aint bad by any means, especially for under 10k, when the LPE kits are 20+ fully installed.

The power seems to be in who installs, tunes and can troubleshoot these kits. I've been following them for a while, here's my impression:

Cerra Single
Not a good ratio of satisfied customers. Seems that the best running cars had their issues worked out by a 3rd party shop.

Lingenfelter
Expensive, but includes heads and cam in their stage 1 setup. Stage 2+ setups running very fast times and making excellent power. Only available installed.

Turbo Tech
Works awesome with a stock engine or heads/cam engine. Low compression, high power setups are still unproven. Stage 2 kit should take care of that when the issues are ironed out.

Halltech
Only published dyno numbers are from a car that blew the engine. No independent numbers. Now available as a tuner kit with only the turbo's and exhaust pieces.

CAS Twin
Prototype car has been around a while, aside from that I havent heard much about it.

LS1 Motorsports Twin
Too new. Only available installed.

This is all just my opinion, I have no loyalty or hatred of any of these companies. Feel free to post any decenting opinions.

LPEs Stage I kit also doesnt include engine disassembly and blue printing like their Stage II kit does. That doesnt warrant an extra 17k imo, but like everything else you're paying for the name when it comes to Lingenfelter work. But, the price is a good bit more (ok, a lot more...) compared to the others. About 23k for the 550 (Stage I) and 40k for the 650 (Stage II) then you could always step up to the plate and hit a 50k homer w/ the TT 427, lol.

IT's also my understanding that NATE at EXTREME PERFORMANCE has a twin turbo setup making at least 500 Billable horsepower for around 10K! MMMMMMmmmmm, tempting!!

Ling_650vette: 17k extra over who? 550TT is advertised at 500 rear wheel horsepower, the only comparable kits are $10k installed, do not come with heads and cam and do not have a 2 year/24k mile warrenty.

Roadster: NATE isnt with Xtreme Motorsports anymore, but they're installing the Turbo Tech kits.

Go to their website and look up the 550TT package, it clearly says 500 rear wheel.

There is a shop just south of Houston in Pearland called G-Force. I have seen them running around town lately with a black turbo FRC. I believe thet said there turbo setup made 490 on a bone stock engine.

you can make lots of power on a stock bottom end... as every kit out there touts their numbers..the key is to how long it lasts. if your looking to go turbo spend the money up front and put at least forged pistons in the engine and spend the money on a good kit... personally if i was going this route LPE is the only setup out there i have not heard any negative comments on.. and is reliable. go to Z06vette.com and look up Blacksun.. he is familiar with Cerra, for my money i would go to a reputable shop that has been around a while.. too easy for a shop to tout numbers and not follow through and leave you holdign the bag. unless you have the mechanical knowhow to wrench on these cars or the wallet to support them yo uare better off spending the money up front because you WILL spend it in the long run...

I talked to Jason at Gale Banks engineering for about 30 minutes today. He even went over to the R&D shop and called me back. There is no kit available for the C5. They have a generic V8 kit and plan on making LS1 manifolds in January. It will be at LEAST 6 months before a C5 kit will be available. Not sure what these vendors that are taking deposits are up to.

The Turbo Vette at the local shop makes a LOT of power for a stock motor car. They are using a Cerra Racing kit... Look for this vette if you are around in Houston sometime. 18x13" Forgelines in the back 18x10s in the front. Black/black with a full cage. Come say hello. Mark is the owner and Jay is the head mechanic.

I saw that Vette at the Thunder shootout running about 118 mph. Does it make more power than that? I'm not impressed with the Cerra kit with all the (negative) feedback it has been getting on CF.

As for Gale Banks. They allegedly had a kit at the PRI show, and have had 2 kits installed and running around on test mules. So, I don't know what to tell you. You might call Cartek as David Busch has been checking into that, and allegedly has some details on it.

The bottom line is what you want to do with the car. You are not going to be able to boost over 7psi reliably. I know the vette above is boosting close to 12 psi on what I believe is totally stock internals and compression ratio. Most would agree that is a ticking time bomb. The other end of that spectrum is LPE that builds the whole engine up and provides stock drivability and reliablitiy with a warranty......oh yeah and 10s all day long with the stage 2 package. LPE is also testing a stage 2+(which means they are keeping the stock displacement) and they are getting stage 3 performance out of it(9s). Anyway, it is all a matter of what you want to spend. LPE and 21st Century Muscle Cars are getting 475rwhp on ZO6s with their blower set up(magnusson) all day long. They are proven, reliable, and offer a warranty. I would go that route before the Cerra....just my personal opinion. As stated above, the Cerra package has recieved mixed reviews at best.

FYI: Just got a new VETTE mag in the mail. They have article on installing a Turbo Tech TT kit in a C5. Numbers on dyno were 418hp and 462lb-ft at the wheels. Added about 150hp to the baseline.
