Default Need to start a new engine build...ideas?

Well I think I smoked my h/c/ n20 ls1 in my C5.

I'm looking to built a new engine for the car.

What combo's put out good numbers? I'm thinking along the lines of a 414 or a 427.

I'd like 550/500 whp/wtq NA and run maybe a 200hp n20 shot.

What are the best combo's for the money? I'll do a forged short block, can I get good numbers from a stock head?

My current ls1 is a 346 with afr205s and a comp cam. I forget the specs on it now, but I was at about 450/425 whp/wtq and 575/585 whp/wtq n20.

What are some good budget minded builds, and get detailed please!? Thanks guys!

If I buy an assembled short block, how hard would it be to finish off the top end? I haven't touched one since I built a 3.1L v6 in a 97 grand am... don't ask.

If your car is standard you could do a forged ls2 or ls3 with cnc ported l92/ls3 heads, custom grind bumpstick, lsxr fast intake, arh 1 7/8 headers with mandrel bent exhaust to the back and all the typical bolt ons. If it is done right you will be right around your goal with much less cubic inch.

I had a Baytown shop build me a 427 with 204 valve ls6 heads (which i will end up upgrading later) fast 92 intake, 90 mm throttle body, stock mass air, 1 7/8" headers with 3" exhaust. It put down last week 569 rwhp. They are now installing a direct port nitrous kit capable of 400 shot.
