Corvette C4 ...good idea ?
If that thing's real, please do not swap another motor into it. There were only 1000 Grand Sports made. Instead you should get a 92+ C4 and do your mods to it. The GS is one of the rarest C4s you can find.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
You could easily buy a clapped out C5 and spend a **** ton of coin on fixing it just as well as a C4. Good thing about C5's is they have fancy electronic doodads that are expensive to fix.
C4's are killer, I am talkin 92+ C4's, LT1 is a good platform no matter what anybody says. You want to go 8's then maybe look elsewhere but if you want a nice bolt-on cruiser then your fine either way.
Tony.
1995 vehicles and older are "visual inspection" only in NC, meaning that as long as the wipers work, the horn blows, the lights and turn signals all work, and they "see" cats on the car, it passes inspection no matter what you have done to it !
No "Big Brother" goodies either !
Try bringing in a C5 with a "built" LS stroker motor (not a "crate motor") and a cam that let's it make 600-650 HP, naturally-aspirated, with no "power adders"...
Either the car's ECU with have an aneurysm or the Emissions Inspector will ... LOL !
The C4 models would definitely have a place in my garage (I have always loved C4 VETTES, but I drive a 1995 TRANS-AM with a 98-02 front end conversion and am getting ready to drop in a 416 LS3 stroker & "stand alone" ECU, coupled to a Richmond 5-Speed and Strange 12-Bolt w/3.73's )
Total investment is under $25,000, including the car, purchased for $8000, 3 years ago, and the front fascia swap
($9500 is tied up in the motor).
Motor Specs: (All parts were purchased new, except F.A.S.T intake & TB)
LS3 block 4.065" bore (honed to 4.070")
Callies Compstar 4340 Forged crank 4" stroke
Callies Compstar Forged H-Beam rods - 6.125"
Mahle Coated, Forged Pistons, 11:1
LS3/L92 CNC Heads 68cc (2.065"/1.59", Hollow Int , Sodium-Filled Exh Valves)
Jesel Shaft-Mounted Rockers 1.7 Ratio
Lingenfelter Custom Roller Cam (specs are "top secret" ... LOL ! )
F.A.S.T. 92mm Intake and Throttle Body
etc, etc, etc !
Did I mention that I love C4 VETTES, too ? (especially the 1995)
Now I'm thinking to invest some money for a year or so and maybe will get a c6 later .
and if the budget was not fine , C5 will be my other choice.
Good question,
the car looked fine but unfortunately there were things I didn't check before buying the car and I'll have to put some money to fix them . and I already installed some new weatherstrip which is expensive .
someone around here came and he looked serious to buy the car ... and I sold it to avoid some true statements said in this thread
turns out i have dropped nearly 18-19k in including purchase.
If I had known I would have bought a c5
Good things about C4 :
decent HP
nice shape
good handling
Bad things :
Rough Ride
opti failure often (too much work to replace it)
less space inside , feet area is restricted .
hard to get in and out of the car (for old men)
it's a lt1 (will leak someday)
and at the end , it's not a LS1 !!!
My first vette was an 01 ZO6 off the showroom floor, I was torn between getting a ZR1 or the new ZO6 and ended with the ZO6. Although it was fast and nice, I never really liked it. Although it was fast, I never felt the sensation of speed, it drove too much like a Cadillac instead of a traditional sports car (too smooth for me). I ended up selling it and getting a 71 Pantera, loved it for awhile but it was way too rough around the edges (too rough). I sold it a few years ago and finally picked up my ZR1. I couldn't be happier, it is a happy medium for me, extremely fast and it feels that way. I can't comment on a base C4 but if you get a chance test drive a C4 and a C5 and see which one "fits" you better.
PS: The C4's stiff harsh ride shouldn't be a problem on Saudi roads.
lol you mean it should be a problem according to the bumpy roads..there are good roads but there are also too many speed bumps , and the quality of the asphalt is bad ... thieves
