Best all around shifter vs stock
We have an 02 Z06 and want to do some drag racing, rally, and road course track days. Whats the pros and cons to aftermarket shifters vs stock?
Thanks

Most aftermarket shifters are very stiff. That's okay for most purposes but it gets bothersome after a while.
The shifters I've found that are easier than most to move, yet have a good mechanical click going into gear are the ones below:
Callaway
MGW
MTI-six shooter
A c6Zo6 shifter is a good medium. It's got a shorter feeling throw, ergonomic ****, and they only cost about $100 in the classified both here and on corvetteforum.com

Cool, thanks for your input!
My wife is liking the Z06 and she can shift but I do remember some of the sticks, shifters, and clutches I had way back and thats can be a good way to discourage someone not used to them. I don't want to put anything where you need body builder legs and arms to shift!

Go with the MGW for smooth reliable performance. As for the after market shifters being "very stiff" I guess that's a matter of opinion. Your wife will have no problem shifting gears with the MGW or any other after market shifters for that matter!!

I have used a C6 shifter and now an MGW in my '99. I am very happy with the MGW shifter. My transmission has always been a little tough to get into 6th gear, so I was apprehensive of a short throw shifter making even harder. What I have found is the MGW is just slightly stiffer than the stock C5/C6 shifters, but not at all difficult. My 15 year old son has no problem with it (from the passenger seat..). If you have any trouble missing a gear when speed shifting, then an aftermarket shifter is a must.

This is going to sound very odd, but ive had b&m and hurst and there way to notchy..
I have a stock C5 shifter that has been cut and threaded till the bulb. Its perfect, not sloppy and just tight enough.
Plus it saves you $200.00

I have a breathless performance shifter in my car. Best shifter IMHO. You can change out the springs to get the right stiffness to what you like. Also you can adjust the handle to suit what you like. I can shift from 2nd to 3rd with just one finger. Never missed a gear.

This. My C5 had a B&M in it when I bought it. Sold it and bought at C6 shifter.

I really love the stock shifter in my C6Z, so if you adapt that to a C5 it'd be plenty fine.
I do NOT recommend a Hurst shifter with the stiffest springs unless you have good muscle memory. It's tight, but very very stiff.
