Why you shouldn't wait to upgrade your 05 differential.... This is a customer that brought his 05 C6 in because of differential breakage.... to say the least. This is a stock car with exhaust and a blower. Don't let this happen to you! Preventative maintence is cheaper than paying a tow bill and repair bill!!!

The biggest difference is case construction. The 06+ has a LOT more webbing than the 05 and prior differentials. In these pictures you can see the difference between the amount of structural webbing across the top of the 06+ differential.

Are there special tools to put a diff together?
Also is there a difference in the '06-'07 and the '08+? The parts counter at the dealership has different part numbers.

The later diffs just use different cooler fitting locations. That is why they have different part numbers.
To install a C6 diff in a C5 you will need a C6 cradle, lower a-arms and leaf spring. Or if you have coil over shocks you will just need the C6 cradle.
