The c5z is much faster than a c6 ls2 stock for stock! Look at the fast list. There are owners that have got stock c5z's into the 11s and trap as high as 118-119 stock. Usually owners that are good drivers trap 116-118 regularly in a 02-04 c5z. There are no ls2s doing that. In fact, the FASTEST ls2 trap for a stock car is 115 i believe and on average they trap around 111-113. I've seen automatics at the track trap as low as 108 stock in ls2s. A member on this site "LS1LT1" has the quickest bone stock LS2 ever! He ran a 12.2 @115. C5z hit that normally and trap higher...

As far as the ls3 vs c5z it is a drivers race with the slightest advantage going to the c5z in a drag race. The ls3 does have a better top end though but as far as a drag race its pretty much equal. Most owners seem to think that also. Dont underestimate the lightweight and the mn12 transmission of the c5z compared to the ls3 (although a z51 optioned c6 is equivalent to gearing as the mn12). Its much closer than you think. The ls2 doesnt stand a chance stock for stock with a c5z thats properly driven. Check this long thread out. Comparison of ls3 vette vs c5z. Here is the link.

At this point i would really go for a c5z06 I have been daily driving mine for 2 1/2 years now with no major issues. If you have 10-12k down you would really only be on the hook for like 5-10k depending on the car you pick up. I dont think you would get denied for that amount. Headers/CAI and a tune and you got a fun daily car. I average 23mpg combined driving and get 28-32 on the highway all the time.

You know you want one!

Here is a very helpful link. I used this to find exactly what I wanted and needed to look for when purchasing a C5Z.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-z...tions-faq.html

As for 01's they do have a oil burning issue. If you can swing it get a 04 as they don't have really any issues. If I could do it over again I would have got a 01 b/c they were cheaper and everything that makes them slower is a easy upgrade. I am a really big fan of the Speedway White and 01 is the only year that color came out. But my 02C5Z runs hard but its had its small issues but nothing major so far (knock on wood).

Ya, I don't know what happened to the link so I deleted the post. I just put through the loan for the Firehawk and waiting on that. 18K. I know its a bit high but after seeing that car up close it is worth it. Ive always dreamed of owning a Firehawk after my T/A got rear-ended, and now I feel its my once in a lifetime to own a mint one. I see C5's everywhere but have only seen a dozen Firehawks on the road my whole life. I know this is the Corvette Performance forum and I picked an F-Body so be gentle

Thats a clean car. I would much rather have my Z06 though. For 18k you can get a c5z06 with like 60k miles if you look around enough. I would say just don't jump into the first cool car you see. I'm 26 also and c5z06 are were its at! Its a diff experience all together.

I have 2 kids also, so anytime I want to go out to somewhere nice or something I have to take the Hyandai. I hate the Hyandai but its the ex-wife's (that still lives with me and get along fine together). And we need to keep that car so she can have something to take the kids grocery shopping and whatnot

Cam swap is a lot easier on that Firehawk than a Z06. I think you can find mods are cheaper and more plentiful too. Particularly parts to lighten the car. Heads are somewhat of a problem being under the dash like they are.

Ugh! I still have nightmares of my first plug change with NO prior experience on doing one or seeing one done on an F-Body. That led to a quick search for a How-To guide at 11pm

Well I finally bought and paid for my new black on black 2004 Corvette Z06!! 18K miles fully loaded to the hilt bone stock. Well being that I've never driven a manual and was gail-force winds and rain and 8:30pm I left it at the dealer, ready to be picked up this Saturday when the rain stops. I'd rather learn the car without endangering it

Yes sir i believe you made the right choice! I think the first two things you should do to her. I did the same two things first cause it makes it better to drive. Better headlights stock lighting sucks JWmotoring.com has a HID kit for the stock housings that works good and is cheap. Change out the shifter stock is long and sloppy! Besides that i say leave it stock till you get the six speed down.

I gotta admit, I havnt driven a v8 in a good 4 years since my T/A was rear ended and totaled and sitting in the vette tooling around the parking lot for 10 mins it was mighty intimidating lol

The day I got my Trans A/M (first stick) I drove it a couple hundred miles in pooring rain. I was so nervous and stressed that I immediately wanted to take a nap when I reached my destination.

I also made 0 stops form the time I left until I reached my destination. For the first week I was very careful about stopping on hills. After that I hardly noticed.

having driven several sticks since then I will say learning in a V8 car is the best. The torque really makes the throttle less important.
