As far as the ls3 vs c5z it is a drivers race with the slightest advantage going to the c5z in a drag race. The ls3 does have a better top end though but as far as a drag race its pretty much equal. Most owners seem to think that also. Dont underestimate the lightweight and the mn12 transmission of the c5z compared to the ls3 (although a z51 optioned c6 is equivalent to gearing as the mn12). Its much closer than you think. The ls2 doesnt stand a chance stock for stock with a c5z thats properly driven. Check this long thread out. Comparison of ls3 vette vs c5z. Here is the link.

As for 01's they do have a oil burning issue. If you can swing it get a 04 as they don't have really any issues. If I could do it over again I would have got a 01 b/c they were cheaper and everything that makes them slower is a easy upgrade. I am a really big fan of the Speedway White and 01 is the only year that color came out. But my 02C5Z runs hard but its had its small issues but nothing major so far (knock on wood).

but its the ex-wife's (that still lives with me and get along fine together). And we need to keep that car so she can have something to take the kids grocery shopping and whatnot
I also made 0 stops form the time I left until I reached my destination. For the first week I was very careful about stopping on hills. After that I hardly noticed.
having driven several sticks since then I will say learning in a V8 car is the best. The torque really makes the throttle less important.
