Good decision! A custom cam grind by a knowledgeable technician will help you maximize the potential of your setup vs. an 'off the shelf' cam. What made you decide to go with the 1-7/8 headers vs. the 1-3/4 headers? I would have gone with the 1-3/4 that I used on my LS1, LS6 383 and now my LS2 (1-7/8 would be slightly better for the 402). A friend of mine installed a set of 1-7/8 on his LS6 and actually lost some power. Mike

At the moment I'm still waiting on the cam, springs, and new pushrods to show up then its off to get installed.

I went with the 1-7/8" because I figured theyd flow better than the 3/4" with the cam and ported heads.

What other mods did your buddy have?

Jack had a similar setup to yours. LS6 with a mild cam, CAI, roller rockers, tune.. the 1-3/4" LT headers (I went with American Racing Headers) are more than sufficient for your setup and then some. I ran them on my 2004 C5 with a LS6 383 that put down 502 rwhp and 468 rwtq, and still had room to grow as I'm now using those same headers on my 402 which puts down 512 rwhp and 474 rwtq. Headers are a good example of "bigger is not always better" as you will lose some low end torque with the 1-7/8" vs. the 1-3/4" unless you're running FI or larger cubic inches NA that demands increased exhaust flow and scavenging. Try to swap them out for the 1-3/4" headers... I think you'll be much happier with the results.

FWIW: I like 1 7/8" on everything.

Kevin, did you swap that big 427 back to a small 5.7L LS6 with a cam? lol. Mike
