I have a c5Z and driven all models of corvettes (except zr1). C5z all the way. Flip out lights...who cares. They are up when dark! Halogens, blah....I put in hids. My opinion:
C5Z-Business
C6- Pleasure
C6Z- Your business is raping everyone and taking pleasure in it.
C5Z blown- the above (^) doesn't apply. I kicked your *** in a car that costs half as much
Now if I had the option of a blown c6z, that's another story.
Summary:
Stock for stock- C6Z>C5Z/C6 LS3>C6 LS2

Yeah, they're a little expensive. But think about the difference in cost over the other aftermarket headlights:
Breathless Performance Fixed Lights: $1,400
Radio Flyer Stealth Light Cannons: $1,200
The rest of the other kits are either cheap looking or flat-out ugly:
Depo fixed headlights: $400 (look like fugly frog eyes)
ACA Projectors: $500 (Look great, but retain the stock hight flip ups.)
These lower-opening sun guns are sweet for the price. I have to admit, I was expecting them to be under $700 when I first started following the threads (all 4 of them), but after looking at these things in person and seeing the quality of the actual projectors and brackets, you know right away they're worth the money.

Great debate, I've owned both Corvettes in question and I like my 05 Z51 coupe. My 01 Z06 was my first love of Corvettes I ran it with headers no cats intake and tune for 4 years. After that went to a P1 Procharger with a mild cam and loved it even more. Then built a motor upped the Procharger build went out of control then sold it. Six months later I bought a 05 Z51 and man it is a very refine the seats are better the braking is better and the interior is leaps and bounds above my 01. All and all I LOVE the C6's period.

They are nice, i haven't seen pics with shroud around them though. I bet a nice carbon fiber finished shroud would look awesome!

As far as I understand, the C5 Z doesn't have TM. Turning off TCS lets you go ***** to the wall.
The C5Z will feel faster regardless of it actually being faster (stock for stock) because you feel the road more. The LS6 definitely pulls harder than a stock LS2 (for obvious reasons), and while the pull is the same with an LS3, the LS6 is louder than an LS3 (from the engine, not exhaust) because the LS3 has a sound cover over the intake manifold.
All in all, you get a raw feeling with the C5Z. Some people don't want that. I feel like I'm always driving a race car in the C5Z. But it's nice to drive a base once in a while because it's a little less harsh. The C6 does feel more refined. If you want a performer that isn't *****-to-the-wall but still goes, the C6 really is a good option. I'd still take a C6 base over a C5 base, but I'm really a driver, so I love the C5Z the most.

Go with the c5/zo6
As this 05 C6 is just plain fuggly , It's had zero problems , And it's just too damn fast. I also hate that the headlights are stuck open all the time.
And throw in Too-Refined....As i hate being too comfortable on long road trips....
For Sale... if anyone is interested in taking this fuggly-*** C6 off my hands

You know, that reminds of 99% of the non-SVT Mustangs out there... Putting SVT badges or Saleen body kits on their cars... LOL
It doesn't bother me when C6 guys put the Z06 wide body kit on their cars. But it DOES bother me when they put the Z06 badges on. Too Mustang/ricer for me.

Well, if you're stuck with an ugly C6...people can always do what you did and replace the boring/ugly C6 body panels with cool C6Z ones. But then you have to deal with everyone asking you about your Z and you having to tell them that it's not really a Z and...blah blah blah.
Yeah, I'll just stick with my C5Z instead!

i like both the c6's and c5's but choose a c5z over a c6 because i liked the looks better, take a c6z anytime but didnt have that much to spend at the time ... as far as the pop-ups go they dont bother me at all, its part of what a vette is to me somewhat (they used them for how long)

So I got a lot of good info here. Seems like the C6 is more for me but I'm still considering the C5Z. I have a couple questions.
1. How much worse really is the 05 diff compared to the 06 and how much does it cost to upgrade to the Z06 diff?
2. Is the $l65E any better for drag racing than the 6L80E? Is there a prices difference when upgrading them?
Thanks
