Default Drag Racing A Vette

In the process of selling the Trans Am and buying a vette. What breaks when you put slicks on a vette. What are the weak links in the rear end.

I think the weakest link is the output shaft.

Well, there are two A4 (4L60E/65E) that were M6 cars that ive seen that're running fairly stock systems. The two cars im refering too are Major Spray on this sites, and the Lingenfelter TT 427. Majors car runs an 9.2x while the LPE car runs an 8.95 and to my knowledge, their rear ends are handling the power which aint no tiny #

Get hardened output shaft you will be fine. The bearings in that rear end are almost the size of a Dana 60, they are huge.

Major Spray does not use a 4L60E, he uses a Yank TH400.

I second the clutch, I smoked mine on drag radials.

Usually the output shafts.... clutch for m6's, auto tranny.... But if you get a hardened ouput shaft on the driver's side and dynotech engineering has made a new piece that stables the rear more ($400 for the stabilizer, and roughly $1500 for the rearend with gears of your choice and a hardened output shaft)..... They were saying that they launched off the limiter all last summer and fall and never broke anything. Good luck, and trust me you will definitely enjoy the vette a lot!!! I really like mine a lot!!!!

Maybe i was mistaken, but the article i read said after the TH400 was drinkin fluid, he switched to a 4L60E, unless he's either switched back, or i read the article wrong.

There are two output shafts in the rear, if you make 500+ RWHP you will need to replace them both, the long one is the most common that people replace, but the short one that has a gear made on to it needs to be replaced also. Buy a A4 car and send the trans to Rodney @ Transmission Specialists or Rossler to have is beefed up.
