Default z06 guys, i need help...

...for those of you that have driven the stock z06 clutch before.

earlier this morning i spoke with the company (luk) who builds the stock gm clutches. firstly, they told me that the clutch in the 2001 and 2002 model f-bodies is NOT a z06 clutch. the clutch found in the 01/02 models is identical in shape and form to the actual z06 clutch, but is made of lesser quality materials. it feels the same, looks the same, but isn't the same at all. the components in the actual z06 clutch have a more durable disc and a fortified pressure plate. it is about ~15% stronger than the 01/02 f-body clutches.

having said that, i am considering an ACTUAL z06 clutch, and not just an 01/02 clutch. i have currently about 323/335 power numbers, and don't intend to ever surpass 350 hp, if that. i don't have a lot in plan for the car performance-wise, but i need to get a clutch that is not going to slip a lot. i don't ever drag race my car, but do get on it occasionally. when i get on it hard, i like to powershift it. this is where i have the most problems with my stock clutch slipping. i'd like to not have those issues with my next clutch. is this a good clutch for me? the only two clutches i'm considering at this point are a spec II and a z06 clutch, so i need help deciding...

i'd like those of you who have had the stock z06 clutch to tell me what you thought/think of it, and to tell me how bad/good it is for a daily driver who likes to rag on the car only sometimes. also i'd like to know how long it lasted, and how hard you drove it within that time frame. i'd like to know a guesstimate for about the amount of horsepower/torque it can hold, and if some of you think this would be a good clutch for me to get. i'd like to make it last 40k miles. thanks for all of your help.

i have a stock z06 clutch in my 99 and have had no problems yet, it sees dragstrip time a couple nights a month and no slipage yet.my car is basicly stock with a small cam and the freebie tricks. i do recomend a new hydraulic release bearing while you ar installing the clutch. if your pedal has ever stuck to the floor during hard shifting i would also replace the clutch master cylinder.

I have a 2003 ZO6 and love the stock clutch
I think it feels different than the stock vettes
It's about time to chang it it was great at first
but now with the suppercharger on it I think it's to much power
but before for lower dyno numbers and for the
price theres nothing better in my opinion

If you want longevity, go with the Z06 clutch... I would avoid the spec 2. Especially for 350hp tops.... That is what my friend's stock 01' Z06 put down, and he has no problems with 28k miles on his clutch. He drives it VERY hard everywhere he goes. I just put a Z06 in my 99' FRC. Reliability and performance are hard to beat with this clutch. Unless you are a serious racer, I wouldn't mess with an aftermarket clutch... as most are a pita from my experience.

thanks for the help guys =)

the clutch i'm going with is actually an upgraded version of the z06 clutch. a company called gripforce makes it (www.gripforce.com for those of you interested). it supposedly holds 25% more power than the stock z06 clutch.

The stock Z clutches in the F-bods and Z06s are both pretty decent. My friends '01 WS6 took a fair amount of abuse with a TNT 100 shot trapping 122mph (street tires). On street tires I think you would be fine with the stock Z06 clutch....Cant comment on powershifting though...PS: how can you powershift your car without wheelhop?

I beat the hell out of mine for 34k miles of track/street racing/ and roadtrips (motor dyno'd 340 at the wheels). It got replaced with another ZO6 clutch assembly. If it goes out again, I'll goto Mcleod or Exedy.

i dunno. i can practically turn the car sideways on the 1-2 powershift though; and if the pavement is the right texture or if it's raining, i really can turn the car sideways. i never hop even from a stop - i think my car only suffers from spinning, which is great, since i hate hop so much

Default 02,03,04 Z06 good to 400rwhp

If you go over the 400rwhp then get a stage 2 or if you get 380 rwhp and put in a 4.10 in the rear, you should get a clutch that will hold it. I am not certain, but I think that the 01 Z06 doesn't have the same clutch as the 02,03,& 04; which has 15 more hp.Here is the reason I conclude this. I have an 02 Z with approx. 380 rwhp., a 4.10 gear & BFG D/R. My stock clutch is starting to slip.I'm going to put in a stage 2.
