Stock '99 FRC runs 12.30 at 113.49mph!
Went back to Cecil this morning for some negative DA runs at their excellent track. The DA was between -800 and - 600 all morning, and the track prep was excellent. The car's only mod is a Borla Xpipe, everything else down to the paper air filter is 100% stock. I am using M/T ET Street drag radials sized at 275/40/17. Previous best was a 12.52 at 112mph on a 1.87 60ft.
First pass of the day (DA -800): coolant temp was around 135*, did a good burnout to heat the Mickeys up, and launched around 3200rpms. Came away with a new best... 12.47 at 110.66 mph on a 1.84 60ft. Not too bad for the opening act.
Second pass (DA -800): let the car cool for about 45 mins til the coolant temp was again around 135*. Heated up the Mickeys again, and tried a slightly different launch technique, this time at 3500rpms. The run felt good, and when I picked up my slip, I was floored (my run is on the left)...
Wow! Never did I imagine a stock C5 on radials would be capable of that kind of pass... and damn near a 12.2 to boot!
Third pass of the day (DA -600), I duplicated the coolant temps, burnout, and launch technique. This time I tried a little over 3500. When I slipped the clutch, the car shot forward so fast, it made me nervous and I let off the gas a little, thus ruining my 60ft. Still came away with a 12.50 at 112.94mph on a 1.84 60ft.
Final run (DA - 600)... did everything the same as the last 2 passes, but launched at 3500rpm again. Ran a 12.42 at 112.93mph on a 1.80 60ft.
So Cecil has 3 more Saturdays left for test and tune, and I'm planning on being at every one (weather permitting) to try and hit that 12.2. With the progress I've made so far, I think its entirely possible.
