Default C5 vs ZR1

Ok, with the stock gearing in a C5 6sp/3.42 S/C making near 650 rwhp, will it pull those gears on the top end? or would i need the ZR1 trans ratio to pull that 200mph out of it???

I would believe your stock gearing in the C5 would still make you reach top speed in 5th, b/c six is so steep. The nice thing about the ZR1 Trans is that it reaches its top speed in sixth, so you still would have some legs left to go a bit faster if the aerodynamics if the C5 can handle it. If you look at Hinson Motorsports mile competition car, you will see that they created their own front chin spoiler to make sure the thing stuck to the ground. At near 200 or over, that's definitely something to consider.

The current ZR1 and Z06 both have aero packages that can handle those speeds. The way the current ZR1's chin spoiler protrudes a few inches forward creates extra down force for top speed runs.

At 192mph in the standing mile, my front end is lifting about 6". There is no stability issues, just realize there is alot of airflow at those speeds. With 700rwhp my Vette pulls strong in 5th above 3k rpms. So to answer your question, it is possible, but how long do you have to get to speed, and then to stop? I still use the stock ratio gears with an RPM stage 5+ M6 trans.

The T6060 has 30% stronger gears than the T56 used in the C5 also so it can pull 6th.

FWIW: I run 3.90's with an M12 which makes 6th gear much more usable with the RWHP in the sig. I haven't done the math to compare it to the M6 5th gear and 3.42's.

If you apply too much torque to 6th gear in a T56 (weakest gear in the trans) it will shatter / shear. This will prevent you from pulling 6th gear. From exp once you're getting close to 700rwhp you need to think about a T6060 swap. It's not only about "DO I HAVE ENOUGH HP TO PULL THIS GEAR?". You may, you may also have more power than the gear can handle.
