One Lap of America Concluded...
Sorry to have taken this long to post some results, but you should ALL be proud of Dan Corcoran's Cancer Corvette, which finished 4th Overall its first time out! This team uses the One Lap as a way of raising funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, and their total raised, since 1991, exceeds $200,000. Formerly using a Vortech-supercharged LT1 Firehawk to Overall finishes as high as 2nd in 1998 (BESTfinish by a solid-axle car ever, equalling Lingenfelter's "Silver Bullet" TransAm), Dan decided after last year's event, to "get serious" with a C-5 Vette. The '01 Z06 "donor" started this winter as a 6500 mile, never-been-rained-on showpiece from Condie Pontiac Buick GMC in Kingston Ontario. Pictures of the car can be found in my "gallery" @ Z06vette.com. Take a peak...you'll like 'em!
This Magazine Project car features an ACP Widebody carbon fiber conversion, Lingenfelter-tuned, stock-shortblocked H & C Package, Lingenfelter s/s LongTube Headers, Random Technology's 3" cats/3" x-pipe/3" s/s tail, McLeod Alum. Flywheel/Dual Disc Clutch, ATI underdrive Balancer, GMPP T-1 Suspension Package-Complete with Sachs Shocks, VB&P brake upgrades to AC Delco DuraStop rotors, CCW Wheels (18x12 w/315/30 Michelin Pilot Sport, fr, 18x13 w/335/30 rr), Breathless Shifter, Corbeaus with 5-pt. belts, and a custom cage. Combo makes approx. 440rwhp, which was substantially less than the first 3:
1) Mark DaVia in a Porsche 996 TT, massaged to 600+
2) Brian Smith in a 600+ hp Viper from MOPAR
3) David Murry in a GT3 Porsche
Absolutely no issues with the conversion, other than some water temp problems in high ambient temps which turned out to be a missing air deflector to the rad.
Next year? For sure! C5-R sounds about right, with maybe a poweradder...
Catch the stories in "Chevy High Performance" and "Vette" Magazines, on a newstand near you soon!
Congratulations, Dan!
