The build thread for my fire burnt, blown up 06 Z06
#22
Made some more progress on the build. Got the trans torn down and cleaned up. It was pretty beat up inside from the previous owner. We built it to our Level 5 spec with micro polished internals, bronze fork pads, TR6060 1-2 shift fork, billet synchronizer keys (I upgraded the 5/6 keys to billet as well just in case I need 5th gear ). The differential got a set of 300M DSS stub axles, ZR1 preload springs and a micro polished ring and pinion.

The rear suspension was installed yesterday along with the exhaust. The mufflers are stock C6 Z06 pieces. I still need to find actuators for the valves.
The engine bay is coming together quite well. Only a few small things left to do. I need to make fuel rail hold downs, wire up the water pump, plumb and mount the oil cooler.
One of the final things I have been putting off is tearing down the calipers to have them powder coated. Like I said in an earlier post, I am getting rid of all the red on the car so the red calipers have got to go. I am coating them a deep metallic blue. I didn't get any pictures of the disassembly process because it was so dirty and nasty with the brake fluid and brake dust. But here are a few of me media blasting them and the finish blasted calipers.

More progress from last night. I got the Setrab oil cooler mounted along with the air dam and fan shroud. I worked on wire routing and placement some and I sand blasted my stock rotors so they look decent till I can find a set of aluminum had replacements. The car is nearly ready to fire up. I am lacking a MAF, 1 set of coils and fluids from being ready to start it up. My fuel rails are off getting powder coated. They should be back today.

That is kind of what I did. I had a 99 C5 FRC that I swapped an LS7 into. I hurt the motor and sold it as a roller. Then I bought my C6 Z06. Then the friend I sold it to came into some more money and he wanted my LS7. So I sold it to him and built another LS7.

..you're not helping bro lol.
I have everything just about to turn my FRC back to stock...except wheels...I just don't know what it would be worth to do, or to sell as a roller...or just shut up and keep it lol. The C6 Z is just such a nicer all around platform to build off of. Just don't know if it would be smart or stupid at this stage lol.

I made some more progress last week. PRI and a busy weekend kept me from posting the biggest news. I actually got to fire it up Thursday night about 10:30pm.
I upgraded a new set of DSS resplined wheel bearings with ARP wheel studs and 09+ Z06 CV axles. I would have went with a set of DSS CV axles as well but they are a little out of the budget at the moment. I haven't gotten a chance to tear the rear suspension apart to sand blast and micro polish it yet. So it is still a little crusty.
Here is the lit up dash the second I connected the battery the fist time. It was awesome to actually get to open and close the doors for the first time with the buttons.
And here is the moment I have been waiting almost 2 years for!!!! Don't mind lack of oil pressure. The connector wasn't fully plugged in.

I so have an update for you guys. Be easy on me. I know the paint is rough. It will be getting painted here in a few. Putting the front end together on the car went pretty quickly. Getting the hood on by myself was tricky without tearing it up.
Installing the front bumper too a little work since it has been sitting in my upstairs bedroom for almost 2 years. But it straightened out pretty good and fit well.
Now the LG Motorsports carbon fiber front splitter has been installed. It went on easy and fit perfect.
Here is the first time the car has ever been on his own 4 wheels with an engine in it since I have owned it.
I cant wait to get my brakes on it and get it tuned! The brakes will be installed this week and everything should be pretty much finished as far as the major stuff goes. I ordered all new fender flairs and wheel opening plastics. They will be hear next week. Im glad the car has a good stance. I had no idea how it was going to sit with the engine in it.

Sorry I haven't updated anything recently. I have been out enjoying the car finally.
Here are a few shots of the paint finally getting some love. I had the front bumper, hood, rear bumper and passenger side quarter panel painted for now. I will eventually paint the whole car. But I just wanted it to look decent for now.
