26k Mile LS7 Low Oil Pressure
Let's beat this dead horse down the road a bit more. I will update this thread as we investigate and find the issue.
As stated, this is 26k mile LS7. BTR Cam Stage 4, Lifters, Springs, Retainers. Milled and "fixed" heads. Everything else is bone stock.
After the cam swap, the motor was fine for about 1000 miles and then oil pressure started to drop. I'll provide exact reading a bit later.
I have no idea what was done during the swap as it was completed prior to purchasing the car. The engine sounds like it's running smooth...no clattering or racket to speak of. No smoke...no hesitation at start up.
Suspects:
Cam retention plate loose?
Cam Bearing? Hopefully not spun....
Dead lifters?
Oil Pump? But I'm not sure if it was bothered when the cam was swapped.
Bad oil pressure sensor? Wishful thinking I'm sure.
Rod Bearing? But wouldn't it be clattering and banging around?
Anyone that has a step by step approach to finding this devil, I would appreciate any guidance you could offer.
Cheers and Happy Motoring

You have to look at all possibilities and take one at a time starting with the cheapest and easiest. You never shared the oil psi and is this dry sump or wet sump? Are you finding any metal shavings in the oil and filter?

If motor sounds good, I'd start with the sensor, one of the biggest POS GM has ever put on an LS ANYTHING. If that doesn't change anything, I'd install a mechanical gauge to verify readings. BTW, what king of pressure are you getting as rpm increases? I'm not familiar with the dry sump setup, as my LS7 is in a C5, with wet sump. But, it could be a relief valve/spring issue. Perhaps the valve isn't fully returning to its proper position. Or the spring has broken, though that's rare. My factory sender has failed twice, reading 130lbs, then, a couple years later, another sender read ZERO!! THAT flipped me out!!! Put a mechanical gauge in, 50lbs at idle. BUT, I left the gauge in place after I replaced the sender. The mechanical gauge ALWAYS read 10lbs HIGHER than the factory gauge. Always. Best of luck to you........
