I had a 1999 C5 back a few years back..
Drag raced the automatic C5 for quite a lot of runs..
Halltech cold air induction, corsa indy exhausts and TTS Power loader..were the mods.. (plastic maf ends with no spoiler or screen, plastic maf with spoiler and no screen, metal maf ends and no screen or spoiler and stock maf with screen)
I ran the stock maf..the maf with no screen..the maf with no screen but the air foil and after all was said and done..
Leaving the screen in the stock maf was the fastest down the track...
At the time 12.88 @ 109.5 mph was pretty quick and a lot of fun.
The car ran better as well.
Bottom line the air flow restriction is so minimal..its not worth the loss of accuracy that the maf wires require over time to give consistant analysis of air flow.
The differences were mininimal but the bottom line was stock maf with screen was the best performer..
Its been quite a few years so please don't ask me for the mph or et differential but I remember at the end of it all..
I stayed with the stock maf with screen and it and the car was the best.
Ask many tuners who use ls1edit and they will probably confirm what I suggest as well..
I can only speak from my personal experience that in the end leaving the maf alone is the best way to go.
Look for other areas to improve performance.
Hope this helps..
