launching a C5
launching a C5 just wondering what could be something easy to change that could help with the launching a C5. ive been told they have wheel hop problems. i was wondering if changing the shocks or using a different tire would help. any suggestions? thanks

I've only taken my C5 to the track once but it didn't have wheelhop problems at all. I've never gotten wheelhop on the street either. I can launch at full throttle (I've got the 3.15 axle) with no problem at the track.

I had bad wheel hop on street radials. Then I put on ET Streets and problem solved. I just drive around on them all the time now. 
When I was researching the issue on corvette forum many people said lowering the car an inch would also help. There is a ton of posts on this very common problem.

ok im going to be running bridgestone PS2 i think thats what they are called. im only using them for this. the car was lowered by turning the lowering bolts, but it really didnt do much. well see what happens i guess. im not a drag racer at all, so this shall be interesting

with a stick and street tires your better off slipping the clutch a little or letting the clutch out at around 1200 rpm's, you shouldn't spin at all if you are at a 1/4 mile track and as for tire prep just clean them off with a quick
(2-3 second) burnout..

I have about 120 passes on my C5 and I only experienced wheel hop once. This one time was when I had the stock runflats on. I since then have changes to Goodyear F1GSD3's. The following are my observations with the different rubber I have used.
Runflats, Goodyears all around
. They are hard noisy and slick. My methods of launch was 1200-1400 rpm launch, then when rolling mash the gas alot of spin in the 1-2 shift. Best with runflats was 13.22@108.
F1GSD3's, Goodyears stock size were a fabulous change. Quite and reatined the stock ride. The tread pattern looks cool too. Methods of launch was 1800-2100 rpm launch, then mash the throttle after hooking up. Slight spin in the 1-2 shift. Best with F1GSD3's 12.94@108.
Drag Radial TA's, BFGoodrich 275/35/18. Small tire so the speedo is off by 2.5mph at 65, and the tread wear is 00. I have about 3000 miles on my set this summer and will likely get another 1000 out of them. I drive with these tires in the summer and an average burn out at the track is 8 seconds. So for a 00 rated tire I think they are holding out O.K. Methods of launch are 3500 to 5000 rpm launch and mashing the throttle the whole run. Best with the DR's is 12.58@110 but average is 12.8's.

I can tell ya what not to do after last nights experience. It was the first time to the track for me in 2.5 years. Tried launching on stock run flats around 2500. Got wheel hop as bad as my thirdgen z. I'll know next time to ease it off the line. My times were awful last night. 13.8's on the 3 runs I got. The mph was there though. Every run was 105+. Best 60' was 2.19.
i love the GSD3s. i have them on my daily driver and they work great. rain grip is phenominal, anyway ill find out after sat how i do with the bridgestone pontenza S04 tires on the rear.

well i learned a lot and had fun. i didnt have any wheel hop issues which is good. as far as traction thought. well thats another story. itll get better and ill continue to have fun i hope. thanks

When my car was stock with runs flats I would leave tire pressure at 32psi,do a good burnout for 5-8 seconds then launch at 3500 slipping the clutch.No wheelhop and pretty consistant 1.90-1.94 60's.
not bad, but i still hate eagle f1s in general unless they are D3s. the F1s are noisy and dont grip well at all. the only thing i can say thats very positive about them is they worked well in the rain with running through puddles, but it took only a slight blip of the throttle in the rain to break loose. the D3s dont break loose in the rain easily at all.
