Default Help....G1 or X1???

Help me decide. Or give me a better choice.
This is a cam only Z06, no heads, CAI, headers and exhaust.
I really don't want to go any bigger.

What will the HP difference be between the 2 and will one idle better than the other?

I'm clueless when it comes to cams....

Thanks!
Dave

Standard vs. Reverse split.... there is an old argument. I think the general consensus was that the reverse split benefits a "more" stock engine. The standard would produce better gains with a modified engine... There a couple of threads just on that subject.

FYI, I have the G1 and love it, but I have all the usual mods....

I've ruled hat cam out, its too big for the stock heads, if I was planning on heads in the future I'd get it, but I refuse to put a cage in my car so there is no need to go that big or get heads. I already run mid 11's I just want the cam to make it easier.

damn it. Then its going to be way to big for my cam only set up as well until I buy those heads. I dont mind putting a cage in my car. I think they look cool when done correctly.

If you have the stock C5 heads, you will really be pushing it, you will still get tons of power but it will run out of breath (and power) above 4,500rpm. I can get by with it on my Z06 but realistically for the additional 5-10 HP I would get over an X1, I'll just got smaller and increase driveability. I never plan on heads. Did I say never.....

I have OE Heads. Why do you say the G5-X3 is too big for the stock heads? With the 114 LSA no fly cutting was required. My set-up is very street friendly.

You obviously do not know what you are talking about in regard to the G5-X3 cam. My C5 (395.2rwhp/373.8rwtq) does not lose power above 4,500rpms, as a matter of fact it gains more power in the mid-top range.

I have the G5X-3 [114 lsa] installed in my 2001 C5 Coupe, A4 with stock heads. My C5 is very streetable even with it's Vigilante 2800. It does not take much footravel to move under normal stop light to stoplight conditions. She idles great at 950 rpms. I do a fair amount of highway driving, where this cam is best...the top end power is amazing.

Definitely has a loppey cam sound and I've received a lot of compliments. Again, the idle is very smooth in that it never surges & never wants to die.

If your into mid-top range power & top-end power that seems like will never peak out, this is the cam for you.

Make sure the person doing the LS1 Edit tuning knows their chit.

most of my races are from a roll at 35 miles per hour and thats up in the rpm range.

I will be taking it to Tonys Corvette Shop here in Gaithersburg, Maryland. FGrom what I have been told and shown he is the man when it comes to our cars.

Hmmm, I'm beginning to wonder if the guy doing the tuning on the car I saw knew what he was doing??? I saw the graph, and sure enough the HP fell drastically over 4,500 RPM. He had the T-Rex cam, I assumed they were about the same size but they are not, that cam may be larger???

All my Z06 friends that have the G5X3 also have heads so I have no comparisons there.

Maybe I will go with the G5X3??? Time to do more research....

Something was jacked up.... Maybe they dont upgrade springs and the lift was killing it? I have no clue. The T-Rex is larger then the x3. But either one of them should pull strong all the way to 7000 as long as it has all the other required parts (headers, CAI, and springs to handle the lift).

I was always wondering if your car was tuned. 15 rwhp from a cam never sounded like a good investment.
