cobra vs. vette

I raced against a modded '03 with my stock 2002 Z06.
The Cobra had header, exhaust, a pulley, and the basic bolt ons. At the time he was mking about 455-461 RWHP. From a dead stop in 4 heads up races I pulled him by 2 lengths including a pull from a dead stop to 150 mph.
We did 4 roll on races and I lost each of these by 1 1/2 lengths.
Understand that a 03 Cobra is over 600 lbs heavier than a Z06 (about 3850 with driver). That additional HP is required to to be EVEN with a Z06. My Z06 made 356-359 RWHP stock. It weighs 3250 with me in the car and a light load of fuel. The car makes 372 RWHP with just the airbox lid off and no other changes.
So,
Take
3250/356 = 9.12 lbs per hp for the Z06
3250/359 = 9.05 lbs per hp for the Z06
3250/372 = 8.73 lbs per hp for the Z06
For a Cobra weighing around 3850 you'd be looking at needing:
3850/9.12 = 422 RWHP
3850/9.05 = 425 RWHP
3850/8.73 = 441 RWHP
Now take into account the better gearing of the Z06 in 1st and 2nd with its M12 transmission. If you get the jump, there isn't enough time to catch the Z06. In a Z06, even though it has 3.42's the 1st and 2nd ratios make it like a 3.90 in a regular M6 car.
As you can see from the HP figures above, in our roll races where the "jump" was negated by going from a roll, the HP advantage of the car ended up giving him about a 1-1.5 length advantage which is exactly what I would expect.
I hope this answers your question.
As a side note, I've manage to rack up some decent times in a Z06. This should give you some idea of what a stock Z06 can do if driven hard...

vette is just a all around better car IMO... it may only have 2 seats... thats when you buy a camaro or a trans am...
i raced a slightly modded cobra in my stock z-28 and i was not impressed at all by cobra...
