Default Gears or Cam?

i have an 04 Z06 and am trying to decide what to do next. i have all the bolt ons minus a pulley and am contemplating between 3:90s or a FM14. the car will see the track about once every other month and will be on et streets. our local track is 4200 feet above sea level so i know we loose alot of power (less stress on the rear end). what do you guys recomend?

3.90s. you give up less by way of drivability gas milage and whatnot. but a cam will make more of a difference if you go radical enough, which isnt very radical at all.

if i do gears is it true that the speedo adjusts automatically (no programming needed) unlike an F-Body?

Never heard that before. You might want to do a search. The speedo should be controlled through the computer just like the f-body.

If you go gears, do the 410's, same cost, more acceleration. Also, with either set of gears get a hardened output shaft. The speedo can easily be adjusted (programmed) by a tuner...

The only programming needed on a C5 (including Z06s) is on A4s, which have both RPM and MPH based shift points. The speed sensor is in the output of the differential, so the speedo is not based on gearing. The only time reprogramming is needed for the speedo is if you drastically change tire height.

Wow stock gears are fine. The ratios on the tranny are alot closer on a M12 so its like having taller gears. Get the cam.

Gears. The 4.10's are the way the Z06 should have came in the first place IMO. I got 3.73's only because of my blower setup or I would have gone 4.10s. But alot cheaper to do a cam then the gears. The rear ends are like 1200 or more I am sure you looked into them. I never did find a shop that will just swap the gears. The cam will be cheaper the only downside is when you do them yourself the Rack and Pinion is a bitch to get out. And you have to pull it to gt the crank pulley off. If money not an issue do the gears. no reprogramming needed for the gear change in the Z06 or any M6 C5
