1/4 mile estimate Hey guys, I've been thinking about selling my Camaro and picking up my friend's 2000 C5 auto. It's black on black with 38,000 miles, and he'll sell it to me for $16,000. It is mostly stock except for a Blackwing Intake and a Borla cat back. It also has 3.15 gears. What kind of 1/4 mile time should I expect from this car?

No! I hope your friend gets out of the mental hospital soon! the only C5s I've seen at that price either had salvage titles or more than 100k on the odometer.Bluebook private party value on that car where I live is $23,350 and that was in average condition.

You'll notice as I have that 1/4 mile times for cars equipped with LS1 motors range quite a bit. It's made it difficult for some to be able to guess what kind of times a car may have. However, just make sure the car is on the up-and-up; then grab it! At that price, if you're not getting it, I will...LOL.

My car has 3.15s and with just a couple of minor mods (Z06 airbox and dyno tuning) it has run a best of 13.17 at 105.

Patman, that is a pretty impressive time for what you have done to the car. I am very close to buying the one I mentioned earlier, just need to find out about insuring it. Also, I've heard from others that an A4 C5 with 2.73 gears won't spin the tires from a launch. Is this true?

Well, it's difficult to say whether the 2.73 equipped car will spin or not on a launch. Just understand that the acceleration will not be as good, while the gas mileage is better and the top speed might be increased (if the engine can wind the gears out). Tire spinning will depend on the road and tire conditions as well as the method of launching. I'll bet that if you're really standing on the breaks and just mash the accelerator while you quickly let off the brake, you'll have some tire spinning.

I wish my my 3.15 equipped A4 wouldn't spin the tires, I have to roll into the throttle or wheelspin kills my 60 fts, 2.27 is my best at the strip, although in practice I have bettered that by .2. A full throttle start will guarantee me a 2.36 or worse...
