F-body MAF translator compatible with C5? Exhaust tips Q too.
Hi all,
I am going to be purchasing a '98 C5 in a month or so and I was wondering if the MAFT off of my '99 Trans Am is going to work on the Vette.
I am also torn on exhaust setups. I know that the factory catbacks on the C5s flow very well and that replacing the catback with something like a Corsa Indy is mainly done for the sound. Well, I can't afford a $1k catback that nets less than 5rwhp, but I don't like the factory exhaust tips. What are the various tips available if you don't buy the catback and could anyone post some pictures for me?
I am going to go with a hidden dry TNT 100 shot to fix any problem I might have finding extra horsepower. <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0">
Thanks!
Chris G

Your MAFT from your 99 Trans Am will definitely work on a 98 C5. The only way you would have probs was ff you were buying an 01-02 C5, you would have to hardwire in the MAFT because the MAFs have a 5 wire plug (internal IAT) instead of the 3 on the 97-00 MAF.
As for exhaust tips, there is only a couple different sets of them that I have seen and they are all pretty damn ugly and are quite known for falling off. What good is it when you have 3 tips and one missing one?
I think your best bet would be saving up your cash for a nice aftermarket system that will greatly improve the sound of your car along with the looks of the rear. Also, picking up 5-8rwhp isnt a bad deal either. On another note, if you go with the B&B PRT system, you get half sized mufflers that will save you 10 or 15lbs. Aftermarket C5 exhausts are worth every penny in my opinion.

Doesn't somone make an adapter for this, I thought I saw someone that had one on a F-body with a Z06 size MAF

Awesome, I am glad the MAFT will work on the Vette.
I guess I will just save up for a complete catback. I can't have those fugly stock tips on the back of my car for very long. lol
Thanks Matt,
Chris G
