Z06 killer?

Z06 killer? My father has a bone stock, 99 C5 M6 with the base suspension. He's convinced that trading his C5 and 15K in cash for an '02 Z06 is the way to go. ( We want to road race to fun ). I'm not convinced. Could you make a C5 handle as good as a Z06, or maybe better? I know what do to with regards to rwhp, but the whole suspension thing I just don't know.

Re: Z06 killer? Yes, you can get a Coupe to outhandle a stock Z. If you're willing to deal with a race setup then the GM Perf. Parts T1 package is the way to go for the money. It'd be an upgrade for the Z as well.
There are many other suspension components available. Everything from coil-overs to bushing upgrades.

Re: Z06 killer? THe T-1 suspension is absolute hell on the street. You can get 99% of the benefits with larger/better tires, the T1 swaybars and endlinks, and Bilstein Sport shocks. Coilovers can be had if you really really want to, but I think great handling can be obtained with the base level springs. I have done it...others can too :-)
Then use the remaining 9k$ to do a topend kit, long tube headers, a 02' Z06 clutch, and a dilusi brake kit.
Then spend 1000$ on 4 instructed track days.
THEN you would kick the #$%^ out of a Z06 for lots less than 15k$

Re: Z06 killer? All depends if he really likes that car or not. Maybe he wants a color change & a new warranty. If I had no particular attachment to the car, I'd go for the Z06.
But looking at it from a cost factor, or attachment, keep the 99 & mod it.
Here's what I did:
MTI Heads, cam, pulley, air intake, ported throttle body, headers & an exhaust, 416 RWHP, 392 RWTQ. Z51 springs, new shocks, Hotchkis sway bars & 265/40-17 & 295/35-18 non-runflats. Also did 3.73 gears. All total around $10K, but a stock 02 Z06 can't beat it. <img src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" border="0">
