What should my 2002 C5 A4 Dyno Bone ?
Also how long should I wait till I have it dynoed, miles etc ?
Thanks
Roger
Wait to dyno unless you are running to do mods..the dyno is really just a comparative analysis tool for incremental horsepower improvements on a specific vehicle..
Have more fun..gtech or take the car to the track after a few thousand miles..(the proper break in is very important imo) Dont' rush to beat the car and it will last you a long time with no trouble..
the Gtech is a good tool to get launch technique downpat in 0 to 60 runs..(relatively legally I might add)
A very little chirp at the rear tires produces the best 0 to 60mph sprints for me..After the car is broken in..jab the throttle about an inch..to launch..then when the traction is there..hammer it..
I bet you pull 4.8's that way..(but hold off and do the proper break in...)
Whats great about the 2002 C5 is the ls6 manifold and the fact that your torque curves are so strong..the extra torque is what makes the car so fast!
From what I've seen Chevys claim that the 01 and 02 Automatics are as quick as the earlier version stick shifts seems to be true.
Don't worry about dyno results as they vary from machine to machine..
My guess is your hp and torque curves are very strong all the way through the range..and most probably peak slightly beyond most earlier versions..(figure 300 to 305 rwhp fwiw! )
Enjoy that car because with 3 years of ownership I can only say..its been a blast.
Happy holidays...

I would suggest buying an extended 84 month warranty picking the mileage you feel you will use in that period of time..
IF you buy it before you pickup the car (from any dealer) Ken Fitchner has the best prices on the internet on GMPP warranties..
I picked up a 72month/ 50k mile warranty for a little over 700 dollars and I paid more than you probably would b/c I bought it after the purchase but before the original warranty ended..
If I were to do it again..I would have done it before the purchase with ken..
Its good at any gm dealer and certainly is a big plus at resale..
Depending on how many miles you plan to drive the c5 a year would give you an indication on the mileage you chose..
I did the 200 deductable because I really just want to have it..in case of a castrophe..which I doubt will ever happen..but this way I'm covered..
Think about it..and let us know what mileage you are using..
I might be able to give you a good estimate on the cost of the warranty from my research.
Ps..my corvette has been as reliable as any car I've owned..in fact better..but the cost of repair outside warranty would be huge..so why take the chance..for me it was an extra 125 or so a YEAR! Thats chump change for the peace of mind..
This is my first ‘Vette after many Mustangs over the years, so I imagine I will be on the road a lot at first, although this will not be close to a daily driver. I am not one to let the car sit w/o mods so after the first dyno. I plan to do the “free” mods first. I enjoy doing that since it is fairly easy and not costing an arm and a leg. Since Dallas is going to the more tougher smog test next year, I want to wait until I see if better heads and cam will allow me to pass w/o any trouble. My car, since it is new, will not need to be inspected until 2004. By then, I should have a lot of data on what will pass our new test and not.

Go to home depot ..buy some wire mesh..take out the fog light black plastic and then take the 10 dollars worth of wire mesh...paint with rustolim silver...bolt or screw it in..looks awesome and lets cold air in..
(otherwise buy z06 grills that go on with double sided tape from this guy Ken Fitchner.. a chevy dealer in Montana..good prices and no sales tax..
Nice guy..
Then for another basically free mod..buy some pvc piping..with an plastic pvc elbow..and extend the k and n filter to right behind the drivers side grill.. or just stick a conical filter that fits on the 2002 4 inch maf..and have a party..I did that for a few local guys..they thought it was cool.
You'll pick up maybe 20 ponies..and even more on the road/track with air moving across the zo6 grill..
Thats a cool no expense air intake..
Good luck..lol..and I knew you were dyno''ing that car in the first month..! lol..
Have fun..

The screen idea I saw somewhere earlier when I was becoming interested in C5's. Thought that was pretty slick and just in my price range, cheap!
The cold air setup will be more fun. I have no idea what is behind the front of the car that I have to contend with. This is the fun part. I have had many miserable results with cold air setups on Mustangs; most of them are pretty to look at but basically are a rip off. I have never seen any verifiable dyno result gains, indicating the cold air on them is not much use. I hear (and after looking at some photos) the cold air intake on the C5 does need some work. I think that I will do basically what you say, come over the front and into a conical K/N as quick as possible (I have a bunch left over from previous experiments!!). I do not like the idea of adding pipe from the front screens up to the filter as I think that causes parasitic losses to the air flow which we are trying to get rid of in the first place.
It is going to be hard dynoing a really “bone stock car”. I usually can’t wait. I am looking forward to Ennis in February and may try the 1/8 mile track near Greenville, since that is a lot closer to me than Ennis.

Another cool idea I've seen is actually lowering the bottom of the radiator shroud...by just changing to longer screws..
I'd probably do wing nuts or something so you could open and close the center of the radiator shroud depending on what you wanted at the time....for a fast quick change mod along with a 4 inch conical filter on the maf end..
That was the smartest cheapest mod I've seen for an induction..
There was a guy named Alanh on one of the corvette forums that did that..
It was pretty ingenious..
BTW..dynos don't really show the performance benefit..of cold air.
I've had both..cold air..no matter which you one you chose..makes a difference in street/track performance.
I bet the bolts would cost all of about 3 dollars...
Open the bottom lip of the radiator shroud using longer bolts..or wing nuts..
I guess you could call that an open and shut case for performance..

Haha... 20 ponies?!? ...you really believe that? You must be one of those guys that believes manufacture claims.

All seriousness aside....From my vast experiences, (but realize I'm a lowly Camaro guy), you should see around 300 to 310 rwhp.
Also, I think JBsC5 has an extra zero in his break-in mileage recommendation....500 miles should be plenty.

To each his own..my suggestion on air intakes is to speak from personal experience .......Take that for what its worth..
Roger asked the question. I gave him my answer.
Thanks Scotty..for your opinion of my suggestion..LMAO..
As far as dyno-ing goes..everybodies got a different way of caring for their car..
Will it effect the engine or maybe rings on the car? Thats anybodies guess..Probably not an issue..
Me..if I spend 40 or 50 grand..I personally would prefer to wait for the car to break in..Most of the time the motors break in a little better with some care..and at around 5000 miles..the engines are known to reporta little better dyno numbers because they loosen up..JMO
What can I say..I like to treat the car with a little more care than the average guy..Roger you asked for opinions..Thats just the way I'd do it.
Am I right..who the hell knows..its just my opinion..
LMAO!
