The wider the tire the more traction it will make. There is definetly more traction in a 315 than a 275. The best traction I have ever had out of drag radial was on a set of 315 BFG's.

I would definitely recommend going with the 315s on a set of 11" rims.
I ran the Nitto 275s at the beginning of last season and they were barely better than my BFG GForce KD street tires. I switched to the BFG 315 DRs later in the year and there was a very noticable difference in traction.

Before spring I'll be buying a set of drag radials and wheels to put them on. Is there a measureable benefit to the wider tires?
Most importantly, is it worth the extra money?

Make sure you have a big enough rim though or you will end up with cupping in the middle. Had 315s on a 17x9 rim and it was way to small. Then you pump em up to get rid of the cup and they are rock hard. I later used 17x11s as MattG mentioned.

IMHO, if you are running close to stock, get the 275's on 17x9.5" rims, you should hook up real good, especially if you go with BFG Drag Radial, the Nittos are nice, but you need to heat them up realll good.

I have gotten good results with the BFG 275/40-17's on 9.5 rims ( 1.66 in the 60' ) but the biggest problem is the sidewall width. I am not sure if the 315's will give you any additional flex/wrinkle then the 275's. The sidewall flexability is the best traction adder !! This is one of the reasons the ET Streets work so much better. If we could put on 15" rims then the BFG's have a super hooking 325 tire. However this is also 28" tall so you loose on both ends, rim diameter & tire diameter

I've been using 275's and getting 1.7 and 1.8
60's out of them.
315's are the way to go though.
My next purchase will be a set of 16" rims with some Mickey Thompsons. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
