Default Installing a pulley on a C5.....Couple of ?'s

I haven't had the pleasure of installing a pulley on a C5 yet, but will soon for a buddy of mine. I noticed in those cheesy instructions they sent that the steering rack has to be taken off. Is this a "must", or is there a way around it. Seems like a PITA just to install a damn pulley.

Hate to say it, but yup, it has to come out to get a good 3 jaw puller on it. It's not that bad. Only about another 45 minutes or so. Good luck!
