Default Large dia. Mass air sensor question

At a swap meet I got a new large dia. mass air sensor so that I can remove the screens on it and not mess with my original one.(Z06) Are there internal differences between the large dia sensors for truck/f-bodies/vettes? The reason I ask is because GM engineers said they removed the screens on the '02 Z06 cause they were a restriction and not needed( and were on the '01 Z06 since the trucks needed screens, alluding to the idea that all the sensors are the same). The numbers on the one I bought are different than the one on the Z06, so thats the reason for the question. Will it work for my Z06?

Ideally you should either get a screenless MAF that has been calibrated by someone like Pace or you should have the PCM tuned a little to compensate for the MAF. However many people descreen their MAF's without any ill effects on a basically stock car. The stock GM MAF's that are descreened have slighly different calibrations in them. I would just give it a shot and see what happens. Use Autotap or some other diagnostic software to verify if it is running ok.

Well, the question really is what is the difference between different part number mass air sensors of the same physical dimensions. Also, how do these outside companies "calibrate" the sensors since there are no potentiometers in them. Do they laser trim some surface mounted resistors?
