Last year I had all kinds of trouble with wheel-hop and keeping my car in place doing the burnout. I just made a deal on a pair of used 17" Nitto 555R's that I'll use this year.
Whats your burnout technique for best 60ft?
M6 Guys: What gear do you start your burnout in, and do you shift?

All I know is that as soon as I got a line lock, I was doing burnouts like I was born with the skill. Before the line lock, I'd scoot around a bit unless I pressed the brakes a lot harder, which would mean the rear brakes were really cookin.
My vote, line lock all the way!

First off I drive around the water.
Then I get the rpm's up to about 5k,
dump the clutch, stomp the brake pedal,
and then hold the rpm's around 5k - 5.5k
until there is a really nice cloud of smoke
behind me.
I run the Nitto DR's and you really have to smoke 'em to get the best performance out of them.

The preferred method and it takes some talent (M6) is to put it in second gear, bump the accel up to around 4k rpm, slide your foot off the clutch onto the brake and feather the accel so you do not go into rev limit. Good burn is 5 sec's with nittos.
Now, do I practice the above or need a line lock myself.... heres the answer 12.771 @115.576
should be obvious.

Sorry Rick, I may be amongst the intellectually challenged here but I didn't get the meaning of the end of your post.
Please spell it out for an old guy who is likely losing a couple of million neurons a day! Many thanks for your patience.
gary
P.S. My burnouts also suck. That line-loc is looking better and better.

With that trap speed you should be low low 12's. What kind of 60' times are you running? If you properly heat the tires you should get no worse than a 1.90 60'. On stock GY Runflats I usually get 2.02-2.04 60' times, no burnout, just a little spin to clean them off. My trap speed are usually around 111mph, and average in the 1/4 would be aroun 12.69.
As far as the linelock, great idea, get the Hurst unit, very easy to install and it works great with the ABS system.
Regarding the burnout, a general rule of thumb, dump in second gear, when you see smoke in your drivers side outside mirror, let off the line lock, roll foward a little and apply brake. Do not stop the burnout while the line lock is engaged.
best of luck
