how to tell LS6 from LS1

how to tell LS6 from LS1 how can you tell an LS6 motor from an LS1 motor? someone says they are gonna get one in their Z28 and i just think he is bsing, can you let me know, o yeah and what aobut the LT4, how do u tell the motor is an LT4? thanks
Re: how to tell LS6 from LS1 LT4's have a red powdercoated intake stock, but that could be changed if you wanted a sleeper look, or to powdercoat your LT1 to a LT4 lookalike.
The LS6 will have center bolt valve covers, not perimiter like the 97-98, but most LS1's are center bolt. There are some block markings that are not easily noticable, do a search on this site for pics. there is also a casting number on LS6 heads, thats the best way to tell if your messing with a ls6 headed motor (blocks are minor difference, just like the LT1/LT4 blocks are different)

Re: how to tell LS6 from LS1 Newest issue of GMHTP has a complete Gen III head "rundown" in there. Doesnt offer the tuner heads, but it does give a rundown of the 4.8, 5.3, LS1/LS6 and LQ4/LQ9 (Vortec 6000 truck heads). And it tells you where the casting numbers are located.
And "stock" to tell if its an LS1 or LS6 check the 8th charachter of the VIN #, i believe G is the code for LS1 and S is the code for LS6 (only 2001+ Z06 Corvettes will have the S tho). Other stock features i believe are the cam and MAF, along with the higher compression on the LS6 then the LS1.
Ultimatly, if you took the red fuel rail covers off an LS6 and put it side by side w/ an LS1, i doubt anyone could tell the difference just by looking. Its internal stuff thats really the difference...cant go wrong either way, not like its a 99 4.6 DOHC Ford motor...we know how great those were <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> lol

Re: how to tell LS6 from LS1 If its a crate LS6, the PCV hose will come out the front just under the throttle body then loop back into the neck of the intake manifold. If its an LS1, the PCV hose will go from the neck of the intake manifold all the way along the psg side valve cover to the back of the motor.
