Default Good buy on a 99 FRC ?

I have been looking at 02 Z06 cars at 32-33k. I found a nice 99 FRC for 22.5k,Black,mint shape,36,000 miles, new corsa indy exhaust and goodyear run flats and a free extended warranty for 2 more years or 75,000 miles.Car fax came up clean 2 owner car.You think thats a good deal. This is my first vette and 10k is a big chunk of cash.

Stock for stock the z06 will be a much better choice. Its a way better car overall. Its newer. Has better brakes. Better suspension. Simple bolt ons it's a solid 11 second car. Samething applies with the FRC. I ran 12.401 then a 12.403 with a catback air intake and tire. I was long tubes and a tune away from 11.90's. Everytime I saw this silver z06 on my way to work I wanted to sell my FRC and go buy one. I dont know what it is but having a z06 is just plain bad ***. They get more respect. Its def worth the extra 10 grand.

Unless you plan on switching everything out with aftermarket stuff. Then it's just useless. Save the 10 grand buy the frc. If your going to mod it with simple stuff like long tubes cam sort of thing. Z06 all the way!

I dont think its worth the extra 10k for that you can have a supercharger install and kill Z's all day long, as far as brake they have the same brakes, comes with a Z51 sus so it handles just as good, only real difference is the xtra power and shorter gears.. I went thru the samething when I was looking for mine, decided to buy the FRC, head cam and some other things..

The Z06 has bigger sway bars and slightly stiffer rear spring suspension wise. Its also a little lighter. But other than that I agree with you. If you are going to mod it the price difference is much better spent other places. Get the FRC (unless you aren't going to mod it at all).

get the FRC, factor in some 03 Z06 wheels, Z06 springs and sway bars for the handleing difference if you need them wich can easily be made up by a simple drop wich makes a HUGE difference and is free!... and then factor in the $$ its going to cost to get over 385hp to the wheels... or more..... I had to make the same choice, FRC+5k=better than stock Z06!!.... of corse you can do all of those things to a Z06 but its about saving the $$

At the end of the day a FRC is a FRC and a Z06 is a Z06. Check the '01 z06 as the price is sometimes in the mid 20's.

Look for an '01 Z, they are trading in in the mid to low 20's, so you should be able to find one around there. Lots of nice upgrades which reduce your mod cost down the road. The only real difference is the slightly milder cam, which still pulls very well. Most have the oil burning either fixed or were not a problem (ours is not a burner).

correct me if I'm wrong but arent the 01 Z06's about 30hp down and have heavier wheels? along w/ some other things I cant remember right now... oh yeah the heavier exhaust so you'd still have to be modding to get to an 03 or newer level....

I just got home and was reading all the post.Iam going to check this FRC out and probaly buy it from what i have read they are a good solid car that performs well enough for the average guy thats wants to have fun on the street. The Z06 is nice but I can take 10k and use it somewhere else,Better shocks/sway bars and some custom wheels/tires,air intake upgrade can always be added later .One factor that is making my decision now is that I can pay cash for FRC and it is all mine.I would have to get a loan for 10k to get the Z.I dont like making payments to the bank for toys. When ever I look at my cars and they are paid for its a nice feeling.Maybe thats just me,I cant wait to get it probaly this saturday it will be in my garage. Thanks for the replies and keep them coming.

accually a 1999 FRC is lighter than a z06, and FRC's are just as rare if not more rare than z06's.the suspension is pretty much the same, through full boltons on the car and you are just as good as one, with stock heads/cam.you should accually be able to find a frc for under 20k, just look around for a little bit...
if it where me, id much rather have a frc because a FRC IS A FRC, and a z06 is a zo6.

Does the FRC you are looking at have a HUD? HUD & AH is very rare on 99s...something to think about if you want to keep it forever. If you plan on modding stick with the FRC...Money savings is worth it in the long run.

Thats a good buy right there. Within reason for the time of season it is. Wow, I should be a rap star!

Jump on that deal and then get yourself some mods.

I bought the 99 hardtop and drove it almost 400 miles home, got cought in heavy rain most of the way and I love it.It almost drove itself. It has a corsa cat back and crossover pipe already installed, all new brakes, new battery. The seller just change the Mobile 1 oil for the trip so I was already for the long haul back home.Iam not sure if I like the wheels. He took the originals to the local vette shop and exchanged them for chrome ones they are still GM wheels and new runflats .He spent some money on this car and never used it.So I might be shopping for some wheels in the near future. Is back pressure common when down shifting ?

The corsa is a good system. Probably worth 10 hp over a stock C5 system. FRC's are fun cars for the price, sounds like you got a nice one.

and, you are right, stock wheels are kinda boring!

If your talking about a little popping and gurgle when down shifting hard and decelerating, yep, normal.

As stated in previous posts, the FRC is a much better "bang for the buck" car. The $10k you save on the purchase price will easily make the FRC a very strong performer. Don't get me wrong, I love my Z06 but if money were a little "tighter" I would opt for an FRC (I just love the body style). Good luck with the purchase and I know you will be happy!
