For that price you might find a 2001 with some body damage or really high miles. I've been looking as well. You realistically need to plan $30 for an 01, $35 for an 02, $40 for an 03/04. Good luck!

I search GM online auctions. So info changes daily. There is nothing on there older than a 2003. An 03 Z06 with 15,xxx miles will run you about $35,000 tops would take that one home. This car i believe has never been licensed or titled if that makes any difference to you... $52,540 sticker price (brand new) Mint condition, Red in color w/ all black interior. Has the Chrome Z06 wheels. Really nice car. Not trying to sell this car, but I am trying to give you some type of pricing ranges. Car located in MI (Warren i believe)
2003 Z06 new sticker price of $52,985 Yellow in color Never licensed or titled. Located in MI. 7,600 miles. Probably looking at a price of $36 tops. these cars are more than what you want to spend, but they were the oldest cars on the auction today.
I will keep looking for cars w/ more mileage, and a little older.

Yeah, I was going to say. I paid $40K for mine June of last year with 20K miles. I'd be real lucky to get $35K for it let alone what I paid for it back then. It still only has about 26K miles on it. It's probably worth $32-34K. Keep looking. There are good deals out there. And, no, mine isn't for sale (yet). Come find me if you're still looking in June, 2007. Mine may fit your criteria around that time (except the near California part).

Hey Cy, how do you like the car? Do you drive it daily or not very often? I am really considering getting a Z06 but not sure if i can wait to get an 06 (several years away from the 06) I could get like an 02-03 Z when my Camaro sells (fairly soon). I was able to drive a yellow 04 Z06 at our dealership, and fell in love. I cant really speak for long term though, so i'm asking you. Are you overly pleased with your car?

). I sold my '99 Trans Am and put the proceeds into this car. With the modifications I had on the T/A, I had about the same amount of money into it as I put into the Vette. MUCH more fun to drive, very easy to handle, and is just as happy cruising as it is running wide-open. The squeaks and rattles in the Trans Am were starting to drive me nuts. This car is put together much better in every way. I'm also getting spoiled by the little things, like the HUD and onboard computer. The next Z06 I get will definitely have the NAV because I love the high-tech toys. What I love most about it is it's completely stock (except for a K&N filter) and therefore retains all of the warranties. Performance, style, and peace of mind well above my Trans Am. Lovin' it! 
This may not be what you want, but I just met a guy up here(works right across the street from Jimmy Hendrix' grave) that rebuilds salvage cars to sell. He just rebuilt a 2004 Z06 with only 4k miles on it and sold it for $28k! He drives them for a month after completion so that he is sure they are ready for sale. His current project, which will be done in a month or so, is a 2003 Z06 with about 15k miles. He says it'll sell for a couple grand less than the 2004 one did. If you are interested PM me and I'll give you some more information.

greekss- if you are near San Diego call up CITY CHEVROLET on 2111 Morena Blvd, work him on the red 03 Z06 44,xxx miles ($52,5xx sticker) thats all i can find in cali.
ONTARIO PONTIAC GMC TRUCK INC ONTARIO, CA has an 01 speedway white vette., not Z06 but in your area? if interested in a white vette check that out.. probably priced at around 30k w/ 30,000 miles auto trans
